Michigan wide receiver Karmello English has announced his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, bidding farewell to his time with the Wolverines. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, English expressed gratitude towards Coach Moore, his former head coach Jim Harbaugh, and other coaches and teammates who supported him during his tenure at UM.

In an Instagram story posted on Saturday, English conveyed his appreciation, saying, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Wolverine! I would like to thank Coach Harbaugh, Coach Moore, and Coach Bellamy for believing in my ability to play at UM. More notably, I appreciate my teammates, Michigan fans, and support staff!” He concluded the message with a firm statement, “After careful consideration, I will be entering my name in the transfer portal on April 16th! Respect my decision.”

Despite having limited action on the field this season, English showcased his potential by making a touchdown catch for four yards against Indiana, demonstrating his value within the team. Standing at 5 ft 11, the Alabama native played high school football at Phenix City Central High School and helped guide the Red Devils to a 10-3 overall record his senior year, including a trip to the Alabama Class 7A semifinal. In his junior year, English guided Phenix City to the Class 7A Championship game with a 13-1 overall record. That year he caught 70 passes for 1,059 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, and also added four more touchdowns in other ways.

As one of the most decorated high school prospects in the country, he played in the Under Armour All-American game. He chose the Wolverines over offers from other powerhouse programs including Alabama, Florida, and Texas A&M. The news of English’s transfer adds a layer of complexity to Michigan’s wide receiver corps, which already have a thin roster.
