Jim Harbaugh honored as captain—Is this a redemption story or just blind loyalty from Michigan?

“Sign stealing”, “scouting players” and Covid’s rule breaks. Those are all the charges that were brought up against Jim Harbaugh and his staff. Back in 2023, Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore, and Conner Stallions all received bans/suspensions because of the ongoing issues that were brought up. The team only had one response, “us against the world”. Harbaugh even went on to directly claim that he had no knowledge of the issues. Hell, even the NCAA president Charlie Baker went up and said that the Wolverines won the title “fair and square”. Amidst all of this, now we getting news that Harbaugh is gonna appear as “honorary captain” for the team during the 2024 season.

And RJ Young from The College Football Show brings us an episode on August 11th talking about why Harbaugh is coming back. “I just want to be clear about this. I think that having him on the sideline for that game is also in response to not having him on the sideline last year,” Young mentioned. Like it was mentioned before, when the allegations were first brought up, Harbaugh had received a ban and was not there when Michigan won the cup. This year, Sherrone Moore bringing Harbaugh back would be some sort of response to the absence that was there last year. Not only that, Harbaugh being there would also push the players more. Young goes on to explain that he wants Moore to win this year. “It is important to me that he succeeds,” RJ mentioned.

Moore has had it rough this year at the Wolverines. Selected as the HC and now facing massive charges from the NCAA investigation. The draft report which was put out by the NCAA revealed that Moore was deleting texts between him and Stallions. Not only that, but he was also found guilty of multiple charges related to COVID issues. If the investigation concludes, then it could mean a suspension for Moore or a show-cause penalty. This would render him unemployable in any NCAA colleges. However, amidst all the bad news, there is still some positive side to the entire thing.

August 10th was a big day for the Wolverines and Moore. 4-star QB Jayden Sanders had decided to commit to Michigan. Sanders has been regarded as one of the best prospects by On3. He was ranked as the No.27 CB and also the No.203 prospect nationally. Moore had taken over the Michigan O-line back in 2021 and since then has managed to change it a lot. In 2020, the Wolverines were completely crushed and sent down to 2-4.

With Moore in the picture, the entire confidence of the team had changed. Recruiting Sanders on the team is also a step in the right direction. The year has started off rough for the HC and he needs some win under his belt to get things flowing.
