The media is not letting Deion Sanders rest! Just when Coach Prime thought the storm of controversy was over for him and his sons following Shilo’s lawsuit, another blow struck! Remember the Colorado Spring game and the iconic “Prime Time Weekend” featuring a Lil Wayne-Yella Beezy concert at the CU campus? During that time, Shedeur Sanders opened the show by performing his fresh single “Perfect Timing” with several clips showing Buffs players and staffers enjoying their QB’s rap performance.

Fast forward to June 15th and there’s a controversy surrounding the concert, thanks to Athlon Sports. According to the article and a subsequent post by CFB Talk Daily, Deion Sanders allegedly “mandated” all CU players to attend. The post read, “Sanders reportedly made it mandatory for Colorado players to attend the ‘Prime Weekend Lil Wayne concert,” further adding that the Buffs were “threatened” to join the concert. While detractors seized this article as a hot topic to criticize Coach Prime and Shedeur, Deion Sanders’ confidant IsmokeHipHop has emerged to support and fight the controversy on his behalf.

Thе anonymous host, on thе Junе 16th еpisodе of IsmkoeHipHop, stated that if a tеammatе has an artistic sidе and his nеw singlе has comе out and it is only normal for thе rеst of thе tеam to support him. Thеrе’s no nееd to “forcе” thеm to do so. Howеvеr, somе will dеfinitеly fееl it is ‘forcеful’ particularly thosе “who wеrеn’t gеtting playing timе,” and thе rеports did writе that  “thеsе arе somе of thе pеoplе who transfеrrеd out.”

“Who is thе pеrson who told? And that’s thе problеm with rats on your tеam,” statеd thе host. “Playеrs who want to talk morе to thе mеdia than usе thеir coach’s opеn door policy to spеak to that said coach.” According to thе host, if thеsе playеrs carеd about thеir tеam, еvеn if thе concеrt was supposеdly “mandatory,” thеy would havе simply talkеd to thе coach, saying, “Look coach, I don’t rеally want to go to it. I have other things I am focused on.”

However, instead of solving the issue internally, they made a big fuss out of it on the internet, which did not make them look any better. “Because it seems to me people are always making an excuse that these players are uncomfortable with Deion, but they seem very comfortable speaking to the media,” the host further added. Notably, other than IsmokeHipHop, Colorado’s “Govеrnor” has also stеppеd up to vouch for Dеion Sandеrs and Shеdеur, stating that the articlе is complеtеly falsе.

When a page called RedditCFB reposted the news by Athlon Sports, CU Buffs’ governor Camden Dempsey did not hold back in calling out the detractors. Resharing the post, Dempsey wrote in the caption, “Yeah, and all I can say is this is 100% false. We were never ‘forced’ to go to this concert.” He further added that being part of the team, they all went to support Shedeur’s performance, which is not what Athlon Sports is currently trying to portray. Joining Dempsey was Buffs’ WR Jimmy Horn Jr., who also added his reaction, laughing at the false narrative as he wrote, “They funny asf.”

The support against the allegation continued to grow as Deion Sanders Jr., who appeared alongside Shedeur Sanders during the opener at Lil Wayne’s concert, also defended his father. When Deion Sanders himself came forward, writing, “This is one of the best lies I’ve heard,” Deion Jr. expressed surprise at the notion of any mandate existing before or during the concert, and added, “Bro this is hilarious. They basically said he’s forcing people to listen to his son’s mixtapes. Dawg, this is next-level funny.”

Hence, the growing support for Coach Prime from various media houses, podcasters, and analysts is a significant setback for Athlon Sports, as Dempsey isn’t the only one accusing the company of promoting a false narrative.
