The 17-year-old high school football rising star is only just beginning his bright and promising career, and for things to end this way for him, many people are both grieved and angered. 

SeMauri Johnson was the No. 13 in the Desert Pines Varsity football as the outside linebacker. He was a good soul and a prominent team player who ranked in Nevada in the top 46. Las Vegas, along with the nation, mourns the loss of this talented youth whose life was robbed prematurely.

News of this tragic incident came as a blow to everyone, especially SeMauri Johnson’s mother, Maureisha Johnson. According to FOX, SeMauri Johnson was an “honor roll student who had a really promising future.” This shocking incident has stunned everyone with people questioning what he could have done to deserve this.

On the fateful Halloween night, SeMauri Johnson and his friends wore ski masks and rode to the 6100 block of Shadow Oak Drive, North Las Vegas. According to reports, when their group stepped out of the car, they were approached by two masked “juvenile males” who were supposedly out trick-or-treating. The Las Vegas Police Department affirmed that the pair opened fire at the group. The 17-year-old football prospect was killed in the shooting as the two killers made a hit-and-run.

SeMauri Johnson was pronounced dead when the police arrived at the scene. He was identified by his mother. The homicide detectives of the North Las Vegas Police Department are after the two shooters and have appealed to the public for information. The “juvenile” subjects were described as having blinking lights on them for better night visibility. One of them wore a ski mask and, all-black clothing and a red backpack. The other one was wearing a Scream mask.

According to Maureisha Johnson, SeMauri Johnson was a great kid who played football at Desert Pines High School. The young junior was soon to go to college to make his mother proud. She admitted that she permitted him to go trick-or-treating with his friends in North Las Vegas. A distraught Maureisha Johnson stated, “He wasn’t looking for trouble at all. He wasn’t that kind of kid.

SeMauri Johnson’s school football team posted a condolence message for their student player in a heartbreaking post on Twitter. The post features SeMauri Johnson, an outside linebacker and strong safety, sporting his No. 13 jersey. The caption reads, “Things don’t make sense sometimes. Gone too young but never forgotten. Our love to friends, family and loved ones hurt by this tragedy. Rest in love kid.”

It is with a heavy heart that the world lays SeMauri Johnson to rest. But this incident brings to light the problem of homicide in the nation.
