Shedeur Sanders is one of the few college football stars who shot to prominence in a single season. Ever since the 21-year-old QB arrived in Boulder with his father Coach Prime Deion Sanders as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, every football fan has heard of his name. And not to mention, his watch flexing style that even NFL players have picked up. But amidst all this glory and prestige, is Shedeur Sanders ready to leave the Buffs and his father behind?

As the 2023 season progressed, Shedeur Sanders hyped everyone in the football world with his performance and became one of the top NFL prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. But as of the most recent update on the college football QB entering the NFL, it’s not to happen until the 2025 NFL Draft, according to his father Deion Sanders. And while the NFL seems like a decent path for Shedeur Sanders, I feel he still has solid reasons to stay back in Boulder for another season. Let’s explore these reasons below.

A dynamic father-son duo

While Shedeur Sanders is professionally capable and eligible to enter the NFL draft next year, one of the things he’ll be missing out on is his father’s coaching. Let’s face it, both Coach Prime and his QB son wouldn’t have come this far with Colorado without each other. And his father’s confidence in him renews his faith and hope even despite repeated sacks this season. Deion Sanders said on The Dan Patrick Show, They’re not trying to leave Daddy this year, by the way.”

Coach Prime declared that both his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders will remain for another season in Boulder and come out at the 2025 NFL Draft. After all, the Buffs would feel different to Deion Sanders once his sons leave Colorado for their NFL career. It’ll be the same for Shedeur Sanders who would have to adapt to a coach who’s not his father and play without his father for the first time, excluding the time Deion Sanders was hospitalized with blood clots.

Deion Sanders said of his son, “Shedeur is a pro. He’s a pro in college football… You don’t know him like I know him because I’m his dad. He’s a great human being. He’s really a great young man. He’s good for the game. He’s good for his teammates. He’s good for college football.”

Raking in millions through college football NIL deals

Although Deion Sanders made it clear that he doesn’t intend Shedeur Sanders to be drafted for the NFL in 2024, he has an exception. He would let him go if he was a top-five pick who would be able to earn more than the sum of his salary and NIL moolah. Yes, as per a report, Shedeur Sanders and Bronny James are the highest-paid NCAA athletes for NIL deals.

The Colorado QB already earns a lucrative salary in NIL brand deals cashing in $4.8 million. So, money isn’t the excuse for jumping to the professional league in the next season. Coupled with the reason above, I feel Shedeur Sanders would rather stick around for one more season under his father’s coaching and experience his college football career to the fullest before being drafted in the NFL.

Shedeur Sanders is Colorado’s beacon

In addition to the above two reasons, there’s still another very important reason why I think Shedeur Sanders would want to stick around for another season with the Buffs. Ever since he played in Colorado, he became an instant sensation. He was the star of the Buffs along with two-way star Travis Hunter who led Colorado to a promising 3-0 season start.

Shedeur Sanders is taking his football career seriously, getting coached by his Hall of Famer father and NFL GOAT Tom Brady. He is a potential Heisman Trophy prospect leading the Buffs with 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns for 11 games this season. But in the last 56-14 blowout defeat against Washington State, the star QB sustained several injuries eventually leading him out of the game.

But after his last injury, there is no saying whether he’ll get well enough to play in the final game on November 26 against the Utah Utes. Although Colorado has already lost their bowl hopes, fans still look forward to ending the final season game the same way they came in.

As far as updates go, it looks like Shedeur Sanders will be staying under Coach Prime’s coaching for another season. While this season did not particularly end the way we all expected for Colorado, perhaps this devastating season will give Shedeur Sanders a new drive to correct the wrongs before he leaves the Buffs in 2025. As one of the most prominent football stars, the NFL will welcome him with open arms whenever he’s ready to join the League of the Legends.
