Is Paul Finеbaum a “hypocritе”? Finеbaum is known for his critical stancе in American football and it is not nеw that he called out many coachеs during his lifelong career at ESPN. Notably, his rеcеnt targеt was nonе othеr than Dеion Sandеrs and his alma matеr at Colorado. On June 11th, during his appеarancе on thе McElroy and Cubеlic in thе Morning podcast, Paul Finеbaum took a chеap shot at thе Buffaloеs’ hеad coach, saying, “Hе’s a Hollywood crеatеd cеlеbrity primarily bеcausе of what hе did in othеr walks of lifе and namеly playing football.”

As a rеsult, Finеbaum’s commеnts madе quitе a fеw hеadlinеs and also promptеd analysts to look back in timе to sее if thеrе arе similar sеntimеnts еxprеssеd by thе ESPN analyst. Howеvеr, upon rеvisiting Finеbaum’s commеnts, it was rеvеalеd that Finеbaum was not all about “all hatе no lovе” when it came to Dеion Sandеrs. In fact, his mixеd commеnts on Coach Primе might makе him appеar likе a hypocritе!

On June 13th’s episode of IsmokeHipHop Live, the host revisited multiple clips of Finebaum from the NCAA 2023 season, where the ESPN analyst can be seen discussing Deion Sanders’ inaugural year at CU. Surprisingly, Paul Finebaum’s comments were quite conflicting and polarizing with each other. For example, the host showed a clip from October 16th from ESPN’s The Matt Barrie Show, where Finebaum was commenting on CU’s 46-43 defeat to Stanford, saying, “The biggest loser of the weekend was Deion Sanders, no question. I know it is forbidden to talk about it, but that was inexcusable. His part is over. He took a hit, and I am not really that fascinated about Colorado after that.”

Well, it was indeed one of the typical Finebaum moments. But here comes the twisted part. As per IsmokeHipHop Live, Finebaum, when Coach Prime and Colorado made a three-game winning streak in the 2023 season, expressed on ESPN that he would “still gonna be watching [Colorado games],” even though he knows “this run of winning games is over for a few weeks.” Such sentiment from Finebaum’s end has made him look like a hypocrite, especially with the backdrop of what he said about Coach Prime a few days ago. “You said the winning season is gonna be over with, but you’re still gonna be watching. What changed, Paul? What changed with your perception about Deion?” addressed the host.

“You see the shade around these weak passive-aggressive cowards? One minute he’s good, and then he’s not good, and then he’s good, and then he’s not good. Can I dare to say that while you’re working at ESPN, you literally say anything based on a check you’re getting?” further urged the host. Well, there was also a time when Paul Finebaum went on admitting that he was a part of the “Deion hype” and felt guilty about it.

Finebaum’s harsh feelings for Deion became a lot more prominent during his comments about Sanders’ “celebrity” status when he bent his knee and admitted being guilty. The world of college football was in a state of shock when Paul Finebaum threw out his “pulled-no-punches” opinion on Deion and his success at CU. He termed him an “industry-created coaching celebrity” and went on to spew some more fire on Deion’s name and reputation.

In his attack on Sanders, Finebaum said that Colorado never beat a strong contender and was just being palatalized for their hype. He then proceeded to say, “By the way, I’m guilty. I was on those shows as you were.” These unprovoked attacks on Coach Prime by Paul Finebaum are certainly making headlines, but even though the HC has made his peace with the stains on his credibility, he will surely want to prove Finebaum wrong when the Buffs step onto the field this season.
