Is Paul Finebaum's attack on Deion Sanders just SEC bias, or does he have a point?

What goes around, comes around! The age-old saying proved true again; this time, Paul Finebaum is in the spotlight. Finebaum aired his unfiltered views on Deion Sanders’ Colorado program a few days ago. His “brutally honest” verdict was harsh, mostly because he called the program “inflated” and directly questioned Deion Sanders’ abilities to make it to the playoffs. And this was not the first time Finebaum’s sharp words have poked at Colorado’s confidence.

Matt McChesney, a Colorado alum, was not having any of it. In his Zero 2 Sixty podcast, the alum defended his program and served the “brutally honest” criticism right back to Finebaum on a platter. “He’s very SEC biased,” said McChesney, believing that Finebaum only commented based on the program’s past. The Zero 2 Sixty host urged the journalist to review the Buffs’ current “loaded” roster.

Though Deion Sanders has lost many players to the transfer portal earlier this year, the Buffs still have pretty good depth in their roster this season. Their O-line looks solid with Jordan Seaton, Yaikiri Walker, and other transfers. Not to forget the D-line beasts like LaJohntay Wester, who bolster the Buffs’ performance.

Yet, Paul Finebaum is not entirely sold on Deion Sanders and Co. making it to the playoffs, as he iterated in his Paul Finebaum Show. Well, even the playoffs are a long shot. Finebaum does not even think that Colorado is “relevant” in CFB.

Paul Finebaum’s brutal words for Deion Sanders’ program

Finebaum commented on a lot of sensitive topics for Colorado. First was his take on Colorado being irrelevant in CFB, which is the most shocking one for the Buffs’ fans. However, during that, he might have praised how well Deion Sanders has carried the program through the years. “So, I know that the media loves this story. We fall all over ourselves, but Colorado isn’t important in college football. Deion Sanders is. The program has a ridiculously inflated view of itself. But Colorado is nothing,” Finebaum said, praising and insulting Prime simultaneously.

The ESPN analyst also believed Deion Sanders hardly had “the patience to stay at Colorado long enough,” addressing the rumors of Coach Prime leaving Colorado once his sons go to the NFL. Deion Sanders and Co. has repeatedly proved these allegations wrong.

Is Paul Finebaum's attack on Deion Sanders just SEC bias, or does he have a point?

Have an interesting take?

Don’t get confused; Finebaum is a true appreciator of Prime, just not as a Colorado head coach. “Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy and what he stands for. He’s a standalone person. He’s one of the most charismatic people we’ve ever seen,” Finebaum said, yet his opinion about Deion Sanders managing to lift Colorado from the depths seems impossible to Finebaum. Do you think Coach Prime would prove him false this season?
