Is Michigan doomed without Harbaugh, or can Sherrone Moore rise to the occasion?

Paul Finebaum and his quest to tarnish coaches make a stop in Ann Arbor. The analyst has recently been making all the waves for being overly harsh about his criticisms of coaches like Deion Sanders, Lincoln Riley, and even Ryan Day. Now, he’s upped the ante by going after a coach and running his name through the mud, who has yet to play his first game as HC for the Michigan Wolverines.

Sherrone Moore, the newest HC for the Michigan Wolverines, faces immense pressure after taking over the reins from Jim Harbaugh this year. The 2023 season was an absolute roller coaster for the team since they witnessed their fair share of controversies to going undefeated with a 15-0 record and then eventually winning the national championship. These accolades will be hard to live up to now for the Wolverines since their golden coach and vital players like J.J. McCarthy and Blake Corum left for the NFL. Though Moore seems ready to step up to the challenge, Finebaum has already made his predictions for the team, which isn’t looking too good.

On the 26th July episode of the ‘ESPN College Football Show’, Paul Finebaum took to the mic to declare his expectations from Sherrone Moore’s Wolverines and in no way will they be able to replicate the success of the former HC Jim Harbaugh, who shifted his priorities to the NFL by signing with the LA Chargers.

Finebaum believes that the Wolverines will have a good shot at winning against the Ohio State Buckeyes but as far as winning the Big-10 conference or the championship altogether, they don’t have a chance in hell. When asked about his “realistic expectations” from the defending national champions this year, he replied by saying, “I think they are on the cutline of the playoff. They’re not going to win the national championship and quite frankly, they’re not going to win the Big 10. Now, I wouldn’t rule against them against Ohio State because of some of the subjects we’ve talked about earlier in the week with Ryan Day but they can have a really good season.” Thus, here’s another coach who’s been belittled by the words of Finebaum, and knowing him, he’s not going to loosen his grip on the sword anytime soon either. With that being said, here’s what Sherrone Moore himself had to say about the upcoming season and it seems like he has a clear-cut method to make it to the playoffs.

What the HC had to say about the Wolverines and what their mindset is going into their reining championship year, is somewhat along the same lines of what Finebaum had to say, just not as pessimistic. Additionally, Sherrone Moore is aiming for perfection this season and wants the players to perform as such.

Moore mentioned how beating the Ohio State Buckeyes is one of their top priorities for this season and said, “Win the big games, beat our rivals, beat Ohio State. win the big 10. Go to College Football Playoff and win it. For us, that’s something we strive to do. tough, smart, dependable, relentless, enthusiastic, and together is how I’ll describe our team.” The pressure has never been higher for the Wolverines to perform but with a comparatively weaker squad than the 2023 season. Will Moore be able to prove himself in his debut year or coincide with Finebaum’s words?
