Is Paul Finebaum out of touch suggesting Deion Sanders for Lincoln Riley's spot despite Colorado's struggles?

When Paul Finebaum went on to claim that Deion Sanders is what the USC Trojans need, no one out there would’ve thought that this would lead to a big debate. With Lincoln Riley’s dwindling performance over the last 2 years, the Trojans have been truly suffering, so what would make this program alive again? Well, Deion Sanders and his Prime-Time persona. “Wherever he is, you’re going to have a spotlight,” and you have to be blind to not agree with this statement. What Deion brings with him is not only his game and coaching experience, which he has been mastering since his days at Jackson State but also his ability to market the team he is in.

Now on the GoJo and Golic show on July 23rd, Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic break this down, but with a different perspective on the situation. “Ignoring the reality of the situation that we’ve seen in Colorado, which is the Deon Sanders has actually had no interest in going out and truly recruiting at the high school level,” Mike Golic Jr. mentioned. They have largely followed a portal-based recruiting system over at Colorado and Deion would not risk and change that. Coach Prime sure ain’t moving out of CU any time soon. And he has been quite vocal about it as well. Also, for the Trojans? They are already an established program and, as we all know about Coach Prime, “He builds legacies. He doesn’t inherit them.”

While it is true that “Prime Time” could change Trojans for the better, Golic Jr explained it the best. “I don’t think the answer is if USC is looking for a coach that Deion’s the guy to bring in because while it will be very Tinseltown-esque in the beginning,” he said. It may look good and all, but it will not work out in the long term. However, the discussion over at the GoJo and Golic show does take a turn towards another interesting angle. “Uh, Shedeur and Travis are both going to leave,” Mike Golic says. Both of Deion’s sons, Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders, and his 2-way star Travis Hunter will move onto the NFL. But the question that many fans have been asking is where are they going to end up?

As much as fans are looking forward to the 2024 season, some also are looking forward to the NFL drafts that will follow. Ian Cummings, a top NFL draft analyst, had the weirdest picks for Shedeur and Travis. Apparently, Travis would end up with the Patriots and Shedeur would go with the Jets. This is quite wild because just a few months back, ESPN’s Jordan Reid had a whole different projection. For Hunter, Reid went on to explain that his two-way skills would be best utilized with the Seahawks. While the team already has two solid WRs on the team, Hunter would act as the perfect “interchangeable defensive back”

As for Shedeur, Reid picked the Raiders. This would make the perfect pick, keeping in mind the connection that Deion Sanders and Raiders HC Antonio Pierce share. Even back on July 11th, Deion Sanders was quite open about his kids and the fact that they would love to play under Pierce. “It’s not a mistake that my kids would love to play for him,” he said during the Big 12 Media Days. Regardless of the outcome, what we do know now is the boys will be here with Coach Prime for this season and that he has no plans to leave CU behind.
