After a dismal performance in 2022 with only one win and not much better in 2023, the University of Colorado is slowly rebuilding under head coach Deion Sanders. Coach Prime initiated a major revamp of the CU program, including a significant change in the roster and coaching staff. One of the key additions was Pat Shurmur as the offensive coordinator, replacing Sean Lewis.
Coach Prime is optimistic about the role of Shurmur in reviving Colorado’s football program. While the team struggled in both offense and defense last season, the offense showed slightly more promise. Therefore, Coach Prime has decided to focus on improving the offense with Shurmur leading the way, along with talented young player Dylan Edwards.

Shurmur made his expectations clear upon arrival. He issued a stern warning to Jordan Seaton and the other players, stating, “Tomorrow, as we put an offense together, guys, we have a mission.” However, Shurmur recognizes the need for additional options and is looking to promising youngster Dylan Edwards.

“Depending on which RB is in the game, you’re going to call the game different… certain runs I won’t do anymore. I won’t run up the centers butt anymore.”

The dynamic running back, Edwards, understands the expectations placed upon him by Shurmur and promises to deliver. He says, “I’m gonna do what best fits my game when I’m in the game. So, whatever Coach Shurmur calls up, I try to perfect it as much as possible.“

However, Edwards acknowledges the criticism he received for his performance after the first game. He went scoreless until Week 11 when he rushed for his last touchdown. Edwards has learned from his mistakes, stating, “Depending on which RB is in the game, you’re going to call the game different… certain runs I won’t do anymore. I won’t run up the middle anymore, you know what I’m saying. I’m gonna run in between the tackles, that’s not a problem.” Edwards believes 2024 will be a different story.
Edwards Taking on a more versatile role
This offseason, Edwards has been putting in serious work. He trained with the CU track team to improve his running form, making him faster. He’s also bulked up to avoid injuries and spent time learning the new plays. Additionally, he believes he has matured as a leader, stating, “I’ve tried to be more of a leader in the running back room, as well.” With his preparation complete, Edwards is all about winning and isn’t afraid to get fired up if his teammates mess up.

Confident about his role this season, Edwards throws down a challenge to the opposition. He says, “This year, I’m playing way more receiver.” He further adds, “I’m more dynamic in our offense. I am in the running back room, but I view myself as not a running back or a receiver. I’m just an all-around threat to the defense.” Edwards will have another opportunity to impress Coach Deion Sanders again after Sanders’ youth football program in Texas.
