No old-school football fan would’ve ever been able to fathom the day when the Quarterback Killer would be tossed to the ground by a 21-year-old. These days, it has been such since Warren Sapp decided to join the Colorado Buffaloes to begin his venture in the world of coaching alongside his dear friend, Deion Sanders. Yet, he might’ve regretted his decision a little bit when B.J. Green’s tackle made him lie with his back flat on the grass.

Warren Sapp, the Hall of Famer and the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle was one of his kind during the era of his prime. He was a player who could strike fear in the hearts of quarterbacks and other players alike with just his existence on the gridiron. Known for his sensitive temperament, Sapp indulged in a lot of altercations during his games and even injured players left and right. Now, it looks like the tables have turned and amidst the dawn of the new generation, he’s the one taking the tackles. After the fans expressed concern over his safety, Sapp came out to address the incident and assure everyone of his good health.

On the 6th August episode of the ‘Well Off Media’ YouTube channel, Warren Sapp addressed all the fans’ concerns about his safety after he took a nasty tackle from B.J. Green during practice a few days ago. After requesting Green to tackle him, the Hall of Famer experienced considerable pain as he lay on the ground for a minute, rubbing his left shoulder in discomfort. Yet, Sapp talked about the incident with a smile on his face, one that the fans are quite used to.

While sitting right next to Green during lunch, Sapp talked about how there are no feelings of resentment between the pair and said, ” I’m back. I’m over here with my guy BJ, ain’t no hard feeling, ain’t nothing, I just got him working. We going to do the right thing and y’all worry about me? I’m back from the LI, smoking and drinking at the Hall of Fame. you got to go visit the boys. So I’m back, I’m back to some reality now.” Sapp and Deion were both spotted at the Hall of Fame weekend and now that the practice sessions are back to their usual schedule, the QBK made a promise to the fans and said, “You won’t see my feet above my ass no more, I promise you.”

With this incident in the rearview, it’s sometimes easy to forget just how monstrous of a player Sapp was during his NFL career. Let’s take a look at the altercations and the hardcore physical contact he would participate in that would raise questions over how morally correct Sapp’s tackles were.

Warren Sapp and the annihilation he caused in the NFL

Warren Sapp is only one of 12 defensive players in the history of the NFL to make the Pro Bowl, be named Defensive Player of the Year, and win a Super Bowl. The names of Deion Sanders, Jack Lambert, and Stephon Gilmore all sit beside him on the list but there was just something especially distinctive about Sapp. He began his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1995 to 2003 and then ended his legacy by retiring with the Oakland Raiders in 2007. During this career, he was always enveloped in the controversies that would result from his hard-hitting style of tackles and frequent verbal outrages.

On November 24, 2002, people strongly condemned Sapp for his blindside tackle on Green Bay Packers’ Chad Chilton. This hit inflicted a severe pelvic injury on Clinton and hospitalized him for almost a week, after which, he couldn’t walk properly unaided for the next 5 weeks. After the tackle was made, Packers’ coach Mike Sherman and Sapp also had a brief war of words which saw the Buccs’ DT explode on the coach.

Yet, that wasn’t the end of it all.

On December 23, 2007, Sapp got ejected from the game after he had an altercation with one of the officials near the end of the second quarter. During a misunderstanding about the ten-yard Jaguar penalty, Sapp ended up gesturing and swearing at Jerome Boger, which resulted in the referee flagging him for unsportsmanlike conduct. But, in the wake of Sapp’s rage, the rest of the Raiders’ team continued to throw insults at the officials, which resulted in a second unsportsmanlike conduct against Sapp. The NFL eventually fined Sapp an amount of $75,000 as punishment and today, continues to be remembered as the player with a dominant presence, one that afeared neither the players nor the officials themselves.
