The Alabama Crimson Tide landed a 5-star quarterback in their newest transfer. A five-star plus quarterback is the newest prospect to sign on with the team and chose Nick Saban over trans players like LSU and Georgia. But this transfer could also mean bad news for Jalen Milroe, the team’s star quarterback.

Milroe was rumored to be leaving for the NFL draft after three seasons with Alabama, but he has recently announced that he will be staying back for yet another season. The recent announcement of Julian Sayin’s signing could mean trouble for the Heisman contender quarterback as Nick Saban looks to make changes to the team.

On December 20, it was announced that the 6-foot, 190-pound Sayin had committed to Alabama. According to the On3 rankings, he is the No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 cycle. Undoubtedly, the five-star plus’s addition to the game will take Alabama to new heights but could also result in conflict between him and Milroe.

After announcing his decision, Sayin stated his commitment and said, “Alabama is the standard for college football. The culture, track record for QBs, and all other positions to the NFL is second to none. Also, the business-like approach at Alabama is what I was drawn to. I want to go somewhere I will be coached hard and they will bring the best out of me. The talent they bring in will be elite every year and they surround you with the best players in the country.”

Additionally, Milroe has been a driving force behind Alabama’s success with his consistent performance for the team. In the aftermath of Alabama winning the national championship, Saban will be faced with a dilemma on his hands deciding between Sayin and Milroe. Will Nick Saban replace Milroe sometime in the future? As of now, it is difficult to predict the situation between Milroe and Sayin’s futures. But while everyone expects a sort of rivalry between the two quarterbacks, it turns out that Milroe has taken on the role of mentor for the newest addition to the team.

Jalen Milroe could very well be a mentor to Sayin as both share similar circumstances

On Thursday, Jalen Milroe announced that he will be playing for Alabama and will be a part of the squad against the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. When asked about his thoughts on Sayin during three bowl practices, he had nothing but appreciation for the youngster.

Milroe said, ” He spins the ball really well. It’s been really good to have him in the room, to have another guy in the room. With everything, just appreciative to have another brother in the room. He’s doing a really good job practicing. He’s a good dude.” Milroe, himself, was a member of Alabama’s 2032 class and also happened to be an early recruit. As such, he can relate to Sayin and say, “I’ve been in his shoes, being a freshman coming into college. All I can try to do is give him the information that I’ve gotten and really allow him to be a sponge with all the information that I have and just be a good teammate for him.” Thus, the addition of Sayin just makes the squad stronger, and hopefully, their dynamic duo can help bring in a national championship next season.
