After serving as a head coach for nearly 30 years, Nick Saban’s retirement earlier this year sent shockwaves through college football.  While Saban seems to be enjoying his newfound freedom – playing golf, doing chores, and living a relaxed life – there’s no doubt he misses the game that defined his career. But it’s not just Saban who feels the void.

For 17 years, Nick Saban led the Alabama Crimson Tide to tons of bowl games and an amazing 16 wins. Now that he’s retired, everyone will miss seeing him on the sidelines. It’s a big change for fans, players, and even his family, who are used to his passion for the game. At this point, his daughter Kristen even shared her mixed feelings about this new chapter on her social handle.

The 28-year-old Kristen Saban has grown up surrounded by football all her life. She’s been a passionate cheerleader for her dad and the Alabama Crimson Tide from the stands at every championship game. This upcoming season will be the first in 28 years where Nick Saban won’t be on the sidelines as head coach.  Kristen even shared a glimpse of the emotions on her Instagram story. She posted a countdown to the season opener with a tear-filled emoji, simply saying, “100 days until football.”

The post also included pictures from last year’s game, capturing the vibrant crowd cheering for Alabama and her dad. It’s clear from the pics that Kristen will miss those moments badly. Now, it’s not just the fans or Kristen who will miss seeing Saban as coach. Even the legendary coach must adjust to the new reality and watch Alabama play without him at the helm.

Alabama’s A-day saw Nick Saban transitioning into his new role

Even in retirement, Nick Saban’s heart still bleeds crimson red.  Last month, he attended the Alabama team’s A-Day Walk of Fame ceremony with his wife, Terry.  There was a tinge of emotion in his voice when he addressed the crowd, saying, “This is the first time I’ve gotten to address a group and I’m not the coach.” However, he quickly smiled, “But I’m one of the fans now,” as he cheered for the team.

As Saban watched the hand-and-cleat ceremony honoring the team’s star players, he seemingly embraced his new role as a fan, soaking in every moment. His daughter, Kristen, couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional witnessing her father’s pride and gratitude toward his former team.  She later posted on social media, “Did I cry? Sure did,” reflecting on the heartwarming scene of Saban backstage.

The A-Day ceremony likely offered a glimpse into the Saban family’s future.  With Kalen DeBoer taking the reins as head coach, the pressure of leading the Crimson Tide to victory will fall on new shoulders.  On the other hand, Saban might just sit back, relax, and perhaps even offer his expertise as an analyst on ESPN’s “Game Day.”
