Nick Saban is a proud old-school guy. Maybe that is what landed him the milestone of being the ‘best coach in the CFB ever’, or maybe it was the sheer football excellence he worked on for years, but everyone loved it. While the others loved Saban for the masterpiece he created on-field, his players loved him truly for his football excellence. Saban’s knowledge not only amazed the Bama boys but also aided them in forging their football skills to their maximum potential. Now he has the chance to extend the fortune to the new Bama boys under Kalen DeBoer.

Walking his fans through the process of Nick Saban-style recruiting, the former Alabama coach got candid on how he used to forge some of the finest players in CFB back in his day. “So every player that we recruited at Alabama for 17 years, I would call them when they were freshmen. And I would say tell me what you want to accomplish while you’re here at the University of Alabama. And my next question to him is, do you know what that entails?” Nick Saban said, revealing the two questions that got him the idea of the player’s potential. Per him, several players could not answer the second question.

“So this is what you call a process which people ask me all the time about. It’s just a definition of what you have to do to accomplish them,” Saban explained further. His strategy also included asking the players what they think they can improve on.

One other foundational basis for this process was Saban would hire a ‘freshman’. Now that Kalen DeBoer is also about to land another freshman for the Bama roster, one whom he “can’t wait to get,” he has the perfect chance to put the tried and tested technique out of Saban’s playbook to use.

Kalen DeBoer has found the perfect chance to put Saban’s questions and process to use when Ryan Williams officially joins the Crimson Tide. The 5-star Saraland High School WR and two-time Mr. Football re-committed to the Crimson Tide less than two weeks after DeBoer replaced Nick Saban. Currently, Williams is finishing up his coursework at Saraland before officially coming to Alabama in June 2024.

“We’ll play the best guys, guys that can get out there and help us. And Ryan certainly has got a very special skillset — explosiveness, along with just consistent production,” DeBoer said, thoroughly impressed by Williams from his interview. Will DeBoer be able to make the best out of Saban’s strategy to forge Williams to be a perfect WR duo for Jalen Milroe?
