Knowing Saban’s strict nature and reluctance to reschedule practice, a staff member named Joe Pannunzio then tried to handle the situation by making numerous calls to the airport security, and the airline to explain the predicament and seek assistance.

Despite these efforts, it became clear that the commercial flight would not wait for Jackson. “This flight takes off at six o’clock whether he’s gonna be on it or not,” said the staff. With no other option, they brought the issue to Coach Saban. Initially, Saban was reportedly annoyed, but when December 23 came and practice finished, Jackson, was able to catch the last flight home, leaving the coaching staff wondering, “What in the hell did he do to get Dominick Jackson on that plane?”  However, Saban, ever the enigmatic coach, did not provide a direct answer but instead looked straight at the staff member and gave a wink, saying, “It’ll be alright.”

Harris himself recorded 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns against the Commodores. As a result, the Crimson Tide amassed 677 yards of total offense while holding Vanderbilt to just 78 total yards, and ended the season 13-1, winning the national championship, while Vanderbilt finished the season 5-7 and missed a bowl game.
