The beef, which was initially just limited to Xavier Smith and Deion Sanders, witnessed a ton of turns. Rather, a ton of barbs were hurled at Deion Sanders and whoever tried to defend him. The one by On3’s JD Pickell might be the sharpest, if not the hardest one to digest for Deion Sanders, so far.
Coach Prime jumped back in the controversy by replying to a fan who was bringing down Shedeur Sanders, by boasting that “He would be drafted top 5. Where would your son be?” Safe to say, the fans were furious. What made them scoff was his later statement, “ I got time today,” Sanders stated.
He shouldn’t, per Pickell. Being the head coach of a team with a plummeting 4-8 previous season record should not have the time to respond to a tweet with 271 followers. “Do we really need to respond to that?” Pickell asked in all honesty. The coach even went to the lengths of comparing him to other college football coaches’ etiquettes while using X or trolling them. “Nick Saban I don’t think ever use Twitter,” Pickell stated, only highlighting his point of head coaches not having enough time to reply to detractors. However, Pickell’s advice to Coach Prime didn’t end there.

“Then he says I got time. Coach Prime, with all due respect, maybe you shouldn’t have time. Maybe there are more pressing things that we can be giving our attention to. This doesn’t need to have our energy coach. It doesn’t need it. I don’t think you need to do something like that. Your college football head coach. That’s something that you need to be worried about,” Pickell said exasperated.
JD Pickell’s X class for Deion Sanders
The On3 analyst did not just have the comparison of Nick Saban to make for Coach Prime. He has sorted through the thick and thin of X to find similar CFB head coaches who completely avoid replying to detractors or do it in a ‘subtle’ way.
“Kirby Smart’s not doing that, Kalen DeBoer is also not doing that. Like Kevin Lane will tweet a little bit but he’ll more so troll people with emojis,” Pickell stated for Prime, suggesting that he refine his replies as a reputed and fan-favorite head coach It’s more subtle If any semblances of doubts were left, Pickell cleared it out with his statement, “You don’t need to win Twitter; we need to win football games.” What do you think about this?
