In case anyone missed a thrilling roller-coaster ride for the New Year, Michigan and Alabama’s clash will give you one. As if the game going from under Harbaugh’s control over to Alabama, giving Nick Saban the upper hand, all in the second half was not enough, Saban and Co. pulled up a last-minute tease on the Wolverines.

The Crimson Tide’s performance under the pressure of Michigan stealing the lead was commendable. Punter Will Riechard came as a savior in both the second quarter and the fourth quarter. His 50-yard kick in the second quarter put Alabama’s 10 points near Michigan’s 13 and his 52-yard kick in the fourth quarter gave Alabama the edge of 20 they wanted.

The 20-20 score at the end of 4th quarter sent the teams into overtime. During the overtime, Michigan’s Blake Corum etched his name in history by making an iconic pass, surpassing the franchise record of the most rushing TD in franchise history. The RB has 25 rushing touchdowns in the 2023 season.

The TD must have gotten onto Saban’s nerves as the Alabama head coach called for a timeout during the overtime, to execute the deciding play of the game. However, it also gave Harbaugh time to prepare his team for their National Championship dream. The result: Wolverines stopped Jalen Milroe in his tracks, and were crowned the team to secure a spot in the National Championship.

Following the defeat that Alabama was not ready for, Saban and Milroe received criticism for the catch that he missed in the second quarter. Were the catch not missed, Alabama would have been in a different position than now, per fans. However, it is salient to note that the season has been full of heated exchanges between the two coaches as they looked after two prestigious teams.

Till the journey to the Rose Bowl, Saban and Harbaugh had several exchanges of jibes. Saban’s comments have oftentimes been reportedly directed at Harbaugh. Consequently, each time, the Michigan coach has given an apt response back. However, not so surprisingly, the main focus of all statements was the sign-stealing fiasco.

As an extension, Saban even banned his players from watching films on iPads individually to avoid any problems later. Michigan also had to implement the same precautions. Despite all this, Saban continued to remain unbothered. Safe to say, if any statements were left unanswered, Jim Harbaugh and Co. answered them at the Pasadena Stadium today, celebrating the entry of 2024 in style.
