The Michigan Wolverines lost a fiercely fought-out battle with the TCU Horned Frogs last night at the State Farm Arena. TCU beat Jim Harbaugh and Co. 51-46 to win the Fiesta Bowl and advance to the national championship game. And the former San Francisco 49ers head coach may be running out of patience with his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

This is not the first time Jim Harbaugh is ending his season at a Bowl game having lost the Orange Bowl last year. And after back-to-back playoff seasons with disappointing results, fans and analysts think that maybe it’s time for Jim to head back to the big leagues again. The NFL can surely use his services right about now.

So, what’s the next game plan?

Founder of Pro Football Ireland and NFL Producer at Gridiron Michael McQuaid thinks the Denver Broncos is where Jim Harbaugh could be headed. The Broncos fired their HC Nathaniel Hackett this week after a dismal 4-11 season. However, things are not certain around current Interim HC Jerry Rosburg’s tenure after the two games this season, and Harbaugh could swoop right into the mix.

NFL analyst and Colts reporter Andrew Moore thinks the Indianapolis Colts are also a legitimate option for the Michigan coach after finding minimal success with Jeff Saturday.

There is only one thing holding Jim Harbaugh back in Michigan

Harbaugh’s run with the Wolverines has been a dreamy one with 25 wins collected over the past two seasons. And one of the most crucial weapons at Jim’s disposal has been Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The sophomore QB had a 343-passing-yards night where he threw 2 touchdowns in the losing effort. Unfortunately, J.J. threw two costly interceptions that were overturned for TCU touchdowns.

However, that hasn’t deterred McCarthy, and Harbaugh has faith in his QB, in whom he sees as a son-figure. J.J. gave a powerful message in the post match conference. And it might just convince Jim to give it another go with Michigan next year. The interview only lasted 26 seconds, but it was enough to convey a strong message to Michigan fans.

Whether he decides to go back to the NFL or continues his work with the Wolverines, it’s certain that Jim Harbaugh wants to win. And with a talent like McCarthy available and fired up, the national championship looks too close to turn down at the moment.
