During the latest episode of his Let’s Go! podcast, Tom Brady took up the discussion on NFL’s MVP for the 2023 season. Contrary to the common expectation of one quarterback endorsing another, the seven-time Super Bowl champion surprised many by selecting 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
Nick Wright, FOX Sports 1 analyst and a prominent Tom Brady critic, analyzed Brady’s choice on FS1’s FIRST THINGS FIRST segment, expressing some skepticism despite acknowledging the weight of Brady’s vote. Wright further drew comparisons with legendary NBA icons LeBron James and Michael Jordan to expose an important aspect of Brady‘s claim.

During the segment, Nick Wright weighed in on an important aspect concerning iconic athletes and their opinions. “It’s his opinion, it’s to be respected, but no, it shouldn’t sway anybody. Come on! The numbers and production should sway people,” opined Wright. He then pointed out that players, irrespective of how legendary their status, are liable to make faulty decisions, before continuing to take up prominent examples from the NBA. “Michael Jordan arguably the greatest player in basketball made some bad decisions running the Charlotte Hornets,” said Nick Wright on FIRST THINGS FIRST’s latest YouTube drop.
Being the only African-American majority owner of a major US professional sports team, Michael Jordan’s achievements in business terms have been filled with highs and lows. Critics have questioned his reputation as an owner, as well as that of LeBron James, who had his misjudgments concerning Russell Westbrook. “LeBron—arguably one of the smartest basketball players ever—thought it would work [with Westbrook]. So this should not sway voters one bit,” Wright said. This can be directly applied to the impact NFL GOAT Tom Brady might have on his MVP take.

In the NFL MVP race this season, Christian McCaffrey has emerged as a formidable contender, accumulating 1,809 yards from scrimmage and notching 20 touchdowns over 14 games. A potential MVP win for McCaffrey would break the streak since 2012 when Adrian Peterson was the last running back to claim the prestigious honor. Since then, quarterbacks have consistently dominated the MVP, securing the award each year.
