A cold wave seems to be sweeping over the Sanders family. Courtesy goes to Deion Sanders’ daughter, Shelomi’s departure from Colorado Buffaloes. The basketball star chose to bid goodbye to the Colorado program in the first week of April which might have been the cause of her father’s disappointment. However, not to worry, she did make her mother, Pilar Sanders proud.

The proud mom now pumps up her daughter’s spirit by motivating her on Instagram to prove everyone who doubted her move wrong, Deion Sanders in particular. It was Coach Prime who considered Shelomi’s decision to be ‘stupid’. What prompted Sanders, who is otherwise proud of his children, to say so?

On May 23, Pilar Sanders posted a video clip on her Instagram that shows Shelomi busy in action during practice, a month after her transfer announcement. The caption of the post captured how she wanted her daughter to prove herself, “We got thangs to do”. The former Jackson State women’s basketball player transferred from Colorado to Alabama A&M on April 26. Shelomi took the decision to step outside Boulder, particularly after hitting a career-low.

As found, the basketball star averaged 16 points per game and even concluded as a redshirt in Colorado. However, good times did not last long for Deion Sanders’ daughter. She got a thumb injury during the pre-season practice that landed her on the sideline during the first six games.

Within her Buffaloes tenure, she recorded a season-low two points on 1-of-4 shooting. Hence, Pilar’s post might just have been a push for Shelomi to prove her talents which went unnoticed by the world. However, it is believed to be particularly intended for Deion Sanders. Wondering why is it so?

Shelomi’s bold departure from tradition

Like Shelomi’s other siblings, her path in college basketball has been paved by her father. She followed her father’s footsteps from committing to Jackson State when Sanders was the coach. When Coach Prime joined the Buffs, she had tagged along. However, never in his wildest dreams, Sanders thought that Shelomi would make her decision to hit the transfer portal and his disappointment could be noticed when the Buffs HC made an appearance on the DNVR Buffs podcast.

His reaction to Shelomi’s decision was, “Yeah which was stupid. “I am a father, I am a real father…where I come from historically kids follow their parents..when do parents start following the kids? That don’t work in my book. I am the leader of the family and I have been dictating where the kids go, not them dictating where I go.” Hence, Shelomi has been the path breaker of the tradition as she went against Deion Sanders’ wish which Shilo or Shedeur never did as they had faith in their father to make their career decisions.

What propelled Shelomi to commit herself from Colorado to Alabama is still not clear. Is it her strong desire to live outside the shadow of her brothers and father by choosing a different home and turning the limelight towards herself? Let your speculations pour in.
