Travis Hunter, a player of immense talent and versatility, is set to dominate the 2024 season as the Colorado Buffs’ CB1 and the top player in college football. His arrival at the Deion Sanders program in 2023 sparked high expectations, which he more than met. Hunter’s performance on both sides of the ball, as an outside cornerback and wide receiver, was nothing short of impressive, with over 100 snaps in seven games.

Travis Hunter’s versatility shone even during his high school, as is testified by his HC from Collins Hill High School, Drew Swick. He said, “We were able to change the defense up and have Travis out there to take away half of the field, he layered corner in 2021. To take the whole field away we moved him to safety in 2021 and that showed his ability that he could play all the positions on the field at a high level… Offensively, he’s just as good.” So, coming to the 2024 season, what role would be best for him?

In a recent discussion on YouTube between Adam Munsterteiger and William Gardner on BuffsStampedeDotCom, the two share their views on how Travis Hunter can benefit the most in the 2024 season. Football analyst Gardner said, “[Travis Hunter] is such a gifted talented player that I think you want to have more options for him than simply flipping his hips and running with one receiver. You want to have more versatility with what you can do with him on the defense.”

Travis Hunter didn’t win the 2023 Paul Hornung Award for nothing. This prestigious award is given to the most versatile, high-level performer in college football. While Travis Hunter is a force to be reckoned with on both offense and defense, CU Buffs CB coach Kevin Mathis has revealed that his primary role in 2024 will be on the inside, advancing on defense. This strategic move is designed to counter the best receivers from opposing teams. Mathis explained that this decision was made because the best receivers were “no longer on the outside.”

Mathis attributed Hunter’s ability to go inside without causing the Buffs to lose their step outside as a valuable weapon for the Buffs. He said, “If we can match up and be able to take away their best guy by putting Travis on him on the inside, or if he’s on the outside, it’s gonna be really good for us being that he’s able to really adjust like that for us.” The Buffs spring game will take place on April 27, setting the foundation for the regular season. So, it’s definitely a game to keep an eye on.
