Aaron Judge's message to Jalen Milroe—Is this the kind of sportsmanship we need more of?

July 24, will be marked in the history of sports. Wondering why? On the same very day, the stars of college football and MLB got involved in a heartfelt exchange of gifts. The athletes were in a gifting spree prior to the New York Yankees’ home game against the New York Mets. The Alabama Crimson Tide QB dynamo gifted the Yankees slugger a Crimson Tide jersey.

Touched by his present, the outfielder awarded Milroe with a baseball bat in return. Why would Judge let go of the privilege to gift Milroe? After all, he is one of the best athletes in the conference.

When the stadium was poured to the brim for the Wednesday match, little did the fans expect anything other than the Yankees crushing the Mets in their home ground. And VOILA! Yankees welcomed a special guest to the Big Apple for Wednesday’s Subway Series match and it was none other than Crimson Tide phenom Milroe. The two stalwarts then pulled off a cool gift swap. Now that Alabama football is at the crossroads while uncertainties of the Big 12 race sweep in, Milroe has found a good luck charm. A pair of cleats gifted by Judge. But what made the gift so special? Of course, a handwritten note on them. It read, “To Jalen- Continued Success!”

Judge, a six-time All-Star, has an important path to cover ahead. In 2024, he is enjoying a dominant season bagging an MLB-high 35 home runs paired with 1.114 OPS and 89 RBI. And right at this moment his enthusiasm to perform better got a boost. But how? The MLB star who played football in college was one lucky soul to receive the No.99 Crimson Tide football jersey from Milroe. It was no less than a dream come true moment for Judge, for obvious reasons.

Milroe is believed to have a blast on the field this season. Even though, the QB had a rough ride during the initial days, his rocky road was topped with the heartbreaking loss against the Texas Longhorns. But Milroe ensured that defeat would not crush his soul. Instead, he scouted through the learning opportunities and evolved as a much stronger QB. While he struggled hard to be the ideal replacement for Bryce Young; he has changed the narrative by emerging as a dual threat.

It didn’t take Milroe much time to gain limelight carrying a completion rate of 57%. But what stood out was his 77-yard scramble. His talents did not go unnoticed, as the other SEC players could not just keep their eyes off him. And here’s what the players had to say when questioned, “Who’s the best athlete in the SEC?” at the SEC Media Days. Landon Jackson from Arkansas poured in, “I’d say Jalen Milroe would be the top athlete. I feel like he’s the most athletic quarterback in the conference.”
