Michigan is gearing up for the Rose Bowl showdown against Alabama on New Year’s Day, and there are some adjustments to the practice routine under Jim Harbaugh’s guidance. Despite falling short of the National Championship in the past two years, one thing that remains consistent is the proliferation of NFL mock drafts.

J.J. McCarthy is among the highly-rated Michigan players, potentially entering the 2024 NFL Draft. However, McCarthy, in his third year, remains uncertain about his NFL future after his junior season, emphasizing his focus on the crucial Rose Bowl game against Alabama over post-season considerations. Despite being a potential top-10 pick, McCarthy delays discussions about the NFL Draft, prioritizing the College Football Playoff (CFP) and its impact on his plans.

JJ McCarthy keeps his attention on the College Football Playoff and steering clear of discussions about the NFL Draft and his future with Michigan football. Despite the impact of the CFP on his NFL plans, McCarthy is approaching it with the same mentality he had since week one. His primary objective remains contributing to bringing a national title back to the Michigan football program. “I’m just focused on the same mentality I’ve been since week,” said the young athlete.

When addressing the upcoming challenge against Alabama, McCarthy acknowledges their super-fundamental soundness, athleticism, and toughness, expressing excitement about the matchup. “(Alabama is) super fundamentally sound,” acknowledged the Michigan football star before extending his appreciation to Alabama’s coaching body, “Coach Saban and Coach Steele, they do a great job of getting them in the right spots at the right time.” When it comes to the Alabama Crimson Tide, however, head coach Nick Saban is gearing up for a fool-proof game plan.

Nick Saban weighs in on Rose Bowl gameplay

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban adopts a focused and efficient strategy for postseason success, emphasizing a “one game season” philosophy as disclosed in his recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. Instead of spreading practices over a month, Saban condenses preparation, allowing players individual work for fitness and focusing on opponent-specific sessions in a targeted 11 or 12 practices. He starts with fundamental training before diving into game planning, aiming to build a strong foundation.

As Alabama prepares for the Rose Bowl against the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff semifinals, Saban’s refined tactics will be tested in their quest for a seventh national title under his guidance, with a remarkable track record of winning the previous six semifinal matchups.
