Ever since Sherrone Moore took the Michigan Wolverines’ driving wheel, the fans have had second thoughts. They still do not seem to be over Jim Harbaugh’s charm. The 2024 NFL draft has been costly for Ann Arbor, not just a coaching swap. They have lost on their two prized possessions, quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum.

However, this weekend might be a game-changer now that two big names are scheduled to pay a visit to the Wolverines headquarters, as revealed on the ROC Boys Football podcast. The two names are Derek Meadows and Kainoa Winston. Will these two names be enough?

Five-star wideout Derek Meadows is among them. According to the 247 Sports ranking, he holds the 62nd rank in the 2025 class. Moreover, he has been a top player in Nevada. The host could not help but shower the player with praise on the podcast, “Derek Meadows represents what we’ve been baying in the table for the last couple of cycles. He’s 6’5 he’s 200 pounds, he’s one of the best track and field athletes in the state of Nevada.” Moore’s squad is fighting with four other schools to land a commitment from Meadows.

Michigan football is in the running for an elite safety recruit from the DMV area. They have set their eyes on the four-star recruit from Washington, Winston. He is known for his impressive track times and agility on the field. According to the host, the 5′ 10″ safety “fits into this Michigan defense exceptionally well.” It’s time for some recap so far.

Michigan’s quest for new stars, keeping in mind the past glory

On January 8, 2024, the Michigan Wolverines capped off a magical year by winning the College Football Playoff National Championship. The leading man behind the glory is McCarthy, who is no longer a part of the Wolverines, now headed by Moore. With his 2,991 yards and touchdowns in 2023, McCarthy was one of the best quarterbacks, if not the best in Michigan history. Besides his performance, McCarthy has been a true team player. Let’s not forget his block for Blake Corum in the 2021 Big Ten Championship.

On making a comeback in 2023, Corum helped keep the team’s goals alive when he rushed for 145 yards. Under his name, he amassed two touchdowns against Penn State. Not just on-field success, Corum won millions of hearts through his turkey drives and toy drives that touched families in Michigan communities. Even though it has been hard for the Wolverines to lose two dependables to the NFL, they are not ready to dwell on the past. They have embarked on a mission to find their alternatives.

Although it is not known whether Meadows-Winston will be able to take up McCarthy-Corum’s position in Michigans, it is assured that Sherrone Moore will not be landing in trouble by landing these two players. Will the new Michigan HC win the trust of the new recruits? Let your opinion pour in!
