Sherrone Moore is ushering in a new era for Michigan football as he takes the reins as head coach for the 2024 season. With spring practices underway since March 18, all eyes are on how Moore’s first recruits perform on the field in his inaugural year at the helm. The Wolverines are coming off a national championship season in 2023, setting high expectations for the new regime. But the big question is – How are Moore’s early signees shaping up so far?

Michigan’s magical 2023 campaign culminated in the program’s first national title since 1997. Moore, who served as offensive coordinator last year, now faces the challenge of sustaining that success as head coach. He’ll look to lean on the talent he brought in this spring to maintain the Wolverines’ place atop college football. The pressure is on for Moore to keep Michigan in championship contention.

A handful of Michigan’s 2024 recruits got a jumpstart by enrolling early for spring ball. Among them, 4-star quarterback Jadyn Davis and 4-star running back Jordan Marshall are turning heads. “Jadyn’s command of the offence is impressive,” said Moore. Teammates have raved about Marshall‘s quickness. “Jordan’s a blur out there,” senior linebacker Michael Barrett noted. The early returns suggest Davis and Marshall could make an immediate impact.

Davis has showcased his leadership skills while competing for the starting QB job. He’s displayed poise and precision in practice. Meanwhile, Marshall’s speed and elusiveness have been fully displayed, adding an explosive element to the backfield. Their emergence has intensified the competition at both quarterback and running back.

Enrolling early allows freshmen to get a head start on mastering the playbook and building chemistry with teammates. Michigan has a history of early enrollees making an instant impact, such as Donovan Edwards in 2021 and Will Johnson last season.

While the early enrollees are impressive, more reinforcements are coming this summer. Several incoming freshmen have the talent to compete for immediate playing time in fall camp.

Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class ranked in the top 20 nationally, and several signees are generating buzz. Wide receiver Channing Goodwin and linebacker Mason Curtis, both 4-star prospects, have caught Coach Moore’s eye. “Channing’s speed is game-changing,” Moore said. “And Mason’s athleticism is off the charts.” Moore believes both Goodwin and Curtis have the potential to see the field early in their Michigan careers.

Goodwin’s explosive playmaking ability could add a new dimension to Michigan’s passing attack. With his range and instincts, Curtis seems tailor-made for new defensive coordinator Mike Martindale’s scheme. Their arrivals should bolster a receiving corps and linebacking unit looking to reload after critical departures.
