Sherrone Moore is in hot water with the NCAA! It’s just a month until the regular season starts, and trouble is in the air for the new Michigan head coach. It concerns the sign-stealing scandal Michigan suffered last season under former head coach Jim Harbaugh.
On Sunday, ESPN released a report stating that the NCAA is set to issue a “Notice of Allegations to the University of Michigan” one of these days. According to the report, Moore could face discipline for his involvement in the scandal after former Michigan analyst Connor Stalions resigned in November. Harbaugh faced a three-game suspension last season. This piece of news has created a flurry of mixed opinions with debates rising on whether it’s a fireable offense.
In a new post on The Ruffino & Joe Show on August 5, Blake Ruffino and Joe Deleone got into a heated debate over Sherrone Moore’s involvement in Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing scandal. Ruffino didn’t hide his true feelings, starting with, “I don’t know if it’s not a fireable offense. Joe, Michigan has to clean house.” But Deleone immediately backed Moore, saying, “They’re not gonna fire him… They would have fired him when it happened, if it was a fireable offense.” But that only provoked Ruffino with more justifications for why Moore should’ve been fired.

Ruffino further commented, “There have been other programs, specifically in the SEC… Who look at all their schools and the sh*t that the NCAA came down upon them, and this is probably worse to some extent than everything that everybody else was doing.” The trouble for Moore is that he allegedly deleted 52 text messages with Stalions when the latter was charged as the person behind the sign-stealing operations in October. This could land him a potential suspension and show-cause penalty. Here’s more depth to ESPN’s report.

As per the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations, Sherrone Moore is accused of being one of the seven members of the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship staff. As mentioned above, the deleted texts have been retrieved and turned over to the NCAA. The report stated that Stalions spied on 58 games of 13 future opponents. He was also on the Central Michigan sideline against Michigan State in disguise. He also reportedly removed hard drives from the program’s office to avoid being caught.
In response to this news, Michigan spokesperson Dave Ablauf told the Detroit Free Press, “Our athletic department and university continue to cooperate with the NCAA regarding our ongoing investigation. We do not have an update to share regarding its status at this time.” On August 27, Stalions will be on Netflix to share his side of the scandal in an episode called “Untold.” But as of now, Moore’s future as Michigan HC hangs in uncertainty.
