Coach Nick Saban is a full-on family man now. The former coach of Alabama Crimson Tide who, once regretted not being there enough for his family, is now making up for every bit of those lost moments with his family after his retirement earlier this year.

Nick Saban, who is widely regarded as the most successful coach in the history of college football, took fans by surprise when he announced his retirement in January this year, after a 17-season run. Throughout this incredible journey, Saban had his family, especially his wife Terry, by his side. His family supported him through thick and thin, as revealed by Saban during multiple interviews, without whom he would not be where he is today.

Terry has always supported Nick Saban throughout his career

The legendary coach has a legendary romantic tale to tell too. It was at a science camp in West Virginia in seventh grade where Nick Saban’s eyes first locked with Terry’s. However, young Terry was not very much into him at that time, yet he never gave up on Terry. It was only in high school when the “Queen Bee [at East Fairmont High]” Terry started dating Nick Saban. The couple finally walked down the aisle in December 1971. More than five decades later, they are still going strong as ever.

Saban has always been open about how the First Lady of Alabama football “Miss Terry” advised him on and off the field over the years. In fact, it was only upon reflecting on Terry’s advice that young Nick mellowed with the media. He recalled his early days,  “Miss Terry used to kill me when I first became a head coach about I did a terrible job with the media.” While Saban insisted that he was “OK” with the media, Terry continued, “You’re anxious. You’re nervous. You’re curt”, she complained, “That’s why they kill you.”  The 6-time national champ will forever be grateful to his wife for the lesson as he believes he does better now at handling the media, thanks to her. Her advice also made him better at recruiting and his relationship with the players.

Meet the Saban kids

Nick and Terry Saban are proud parents of two children, a daughter named Kristen and a son named Nicholas, both of whom they adopted. Kristen, who is very active on her socials and is a hardcore Alabama football fan, has been documenting her father’s post-retirement journey via her social media posts.

Nicholas is an entrepreneur and has carved his name in his field. Nicholas married his longtime girlfriend Kelsey Laney and their union welcomed a new member, Amelia, into the Saban family in 2013. The couple, however, parted their ways. Nicholas is now dating Samira Magarov. Both the Saban kids are involved in their parents’ charity organization Nick’s Kids Foundation, which the couple founded to promote education and youth development.

As the coach enjoys his life away from the ground for the first time in his life, Kristen’s Fourth of July family photos that she posted on her Instagram, show that the coach is acing it off the ground as well, all while sporting a cool beard!
