Coach Dabo Swinney is quite different from other coaches who avoid high-school recruits or adopt a “no-visit” policy. In his unconventional recruiting method, he confidently chose not to use the transfer portal for his 2024 roster, despite the growing trend of using it to quickly strengthen teams. Swinney believes in long-term stability and trusts the players he currently has.

This decision has resulted in zero transfer portal additions for Clemson in 2024. Swinney remains unfazed, but fans are concerned about the lack of activity in the portal. While the culture Swinney promotes is admirable, Tiger fans want the team to evolve and regain its former dominance.

Dabo Swinney recently explained his stance on ACC PM, stating, “Every player is technically a transfer. We just signed a whole class of guys transferring from high school.” He further highlighted the aspect of both attracting new players and retaining existing ones during the transfer portal period. He proudly pointed out that “we had 127 players go through spring and 125 are still on our roster post-portal.” Swinney sounded confident in his long-term sustainability approach. He also highlighted that many of his players stay at Clemson longer than players at other top schools, leading to the university having the highest graduation rate in the last ten years. However, not everyone is happy with his approach.

Clemson Tigers’ head coach Dabo Swinney has been under fire from fans due to the team’s lackluster performance since their last championship appearance in 2018. Even though he led the Tigers to four championships, his recent lack of action and slackness has led to criticism. Some fans have resorted to sarcasm, with comments like “Most Dabo quote of all time” and “We trusting the dabo process 🙌 (I’m on the floor it’s so over).” One fan sarcastically questioned the coach’s old-fashioned ways, asking, “Clemson fans gotta be nervous for long term at this point right??”

However, not all fans are taking the situation lightly. Many are frustrated with Swinney’s traditional approach, viewing it as stubbornness that could lead to the team’s downfall. One fan responded with, “That’s the dumbest rebuttal ever. Dabo is the best coach in Clemson history, but this is a dumbass response. His stubbornness will be his downfall.” Another even went so far as to say, “If I were a high school recruit, I wouldn’t sign with Clemson specifically because of this guy’s shit takes.” One fan gave his straightforward verdict stating, “You know it’s over because he’s lying to himself now.” Now the pressure is on for Swinney to turn the tide and secure a win, proving his critics wrong.
