The CU Buffs offense needed a hard revamp and a thorough brush up on the basics, and Coach Prime saw the potential in long-time NFL coach Pat Shurmur. From being a quality analyst to becoming the offensive coordinator at Colorado was a big leap for Shurmur. That and fixing the Buffs’ offense, one that allowed their QB to be sacked the highest number of times last season. The task was mammoth, but the flame of motivation for Shurmur was right in front of his eyes.
“This has been a program that has made me feel younger and refreshed and a lot of that has to do with Coach Prime and how he approaches his day and how he approaches building a program,” Shurmur confessed in the Colorado Football’s video. Nothing could make for a more dynamic pair than a refreshed OC and a charged offense. Shurmur is well aware of the things the Buffs could unlock with a potential like this. And they are not aiming for anything less.

“We’re on our journey to win a championship and doing it in it here is going to be really exciting,” Shurmur added, unwrapping their ultimate goal as a team. Last season’s records might come as the reality check here. However, with the rampage of preparation underway at Folsom Field, it might come true after all!

The Black and Gold practice drills are a testament to it all. A session with the Marine Corps and kicking son Shilo out for not doing the drills properly, all point to one thing: Deion Sanders is not fooling around this time. Pat Shurmur is on the same magnitude of seriousness as Coach Prime and has forged a strategy to bolster the CU offense.

Pat Shurmur’s plan ahead

The OC is revving up the Buffs’ offense. Sure the new talents like Jordan Seaton have helped, but it’s the combined efforts of players and coaches that have brought a debut-like fresh zeal to Buffs’ offense department. And Shurmur is planning to perfectly capitalize on this renewed enthusiasm to architect a perfect system that highlights the dynamism each player brings to the table.

We’re going to do what we can to get the ball to our playmakers, and that goes without saying. You’ve seen it at all levels. We need to protect the football and be very efficient in our performance,” Shurmur said. Addressing the elephant in the room, their QB being the most sacked in the country, Shurmur also had a foolproof plan ready for it. “We’re going to try to put together an offense that will protect him and then run the football so that what he can do is even more dominant,” Shurmur highlighted.

While these plans sound flawless, will they be executed flawlessly, given the Buffs’ proneness to making on-field play-calling blunders? That’s the question that will decide whether the next season would be a hit or a flop for the Buffs.
