Is Lincoln Riley's QB hunt a sign of desperation or a masterstroke for USC's future?

The quarterback recruitment drama with Julian Lewis is buzzing, and USC is right in the middle of it. Five-star QB, once committed to the Trojans, seems increasingly likely to flip his commitment to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.

While the Buffs, too, are making a strong push for Lewis, USC isn’t sitting idly by. They’ve been actively pursuing other top quarterbacks, including Husan Longstreet, who’s currently committed to Texas A&M. The Trojans have been in consistent contact with Longstreet, hoping to sway him to Southern California.

A recent post on the Folsom Frenzy Podcast hinted at USC’s strategy: “We only see two possibilities here…1. USC doesn’t want Ju Ju 2. USC knows Ju Ju is a Buff.” In a way, Colorado has worked for this possibility to happen. They rolled out the red carpet for Lewis, going as far as naming a burger after him. The entire Boulder community came together for the young quarterback, making him feel right at home. Even current Buffs quarterback Shedeur Sanders has publicly welcomed Lewis to the team by releasing a poster of him, handing over the ‘keys of responsibilities’ to JuJu.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Riley’s team is still working their ways with the new elite QB, Longstreet. Now, Longstreet is currently committed to Texas A&M, but he’s a California native and a lifelong USC fan. This could give the Trojans a better chance to get Longstreet because he grew up wanting to play for them.

At this point, we just have to wait and see if USC can pull off another recruiting win with this 5-star talent. For now, Riley’s team has much less options to consider if Lewis leaves for Boulder.

Lincoln Riley has a handful of five- and four-star quarterbacks on his radar, but many of them are already committed to other schools. Husan Longstreet, a standout from Centennial High School, seems like their prime target. He had a great junior season, throwing for over 3,000 yards. He even competed against Julian Lewis at the Elite 11 Finals camp, where he won MVP on the first day, despite injuring his foot. Now, there’s a chance the Trojans could convince the California native to flip. If they are failing here, the other possible options for USC include four-star quarterbacks Madden Iamaleava, Deuce Knight, and Matt Zoller. They could also take a shot at flipping five-star LSU commit Bryce Underwood, though that’s a long shot.

Now, the NCAA recruiting space is quite competitive. But with Riley’s track record of developing Heisman-worthy quarterbacks, USC is still in a good position to land a top talent. Well, if Deion can make a flip, so can Riley!
