Fans know Tyreek Hill as one of the best wide receivers of his generation. But that wasn’t always the case. In fact, during his college career, Hill did not play in that position regularly. And his total number of receiving touchdowns will shock most of the fans who did not follow him during his time before the NFL.
According to Sports Reference, Hill played just one season in division one of the NCAA football. That came in the 2014 season. And he had just one receiving touchdown in his career as an Oklahoma State Tiger.

Shocking as it may be, the stats don’t tell the full story. He was a utility player for the Tigers, playing multiple positions during the season. In the 12 games he played, Hill recorded 31 receptions for 281 yards. But his explosive plays came as a running back and a kick/punt returner. He gained 534 yards for the Tigers as a running back and found the endzone once. And he returned two kicks for a touchdown and gained 815 yards in scrimmage.
Nobody could have imagined him as an elite wide receiver in the NFL. But that is exactly what he became after he joined the Kansas City Chiefs as a fifth-round pick in 2016.

A stunning transition
Even after joining the Chiefs, Hill remained a utility player for a while. He had an immediate impact as he became the first player since 1965 to score a touchdown through a reception, rush and kick return in a single game. That came in a week 12 victory over the Denver Broncos in his rookie season.
The Chiefs turned him into a wide receiver and Hill went to the Pro Bowl every single season. He won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs in the 2019 season. Before the 2022 season, Hill left the Chiefs to join the Miami Dolphins and continued his impressive career.
