Lane Kiffin Sets the Record Straight After Tyler Siskey Blames Him for Nick Saban’s Scolding

A hilarious coaching clash from a decade ago resurfaces! And this time Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin enters to weigh in with his own humorous take. The story was shared on the McCready and Siskey podcast, where former Alabama player personnel Tyler Siskey recounted a chaotic recruiting day involving Nick Saban, the team’s then-head coach.

According to Siskey, the pressure was immense. Coach Saban was scheduled for a live TV appearance on ESPN, a major college football coaches’ press conference, but things were running behind. A crucial recruit’s parent hadn’t shown up yet, causing Saban to erupt in frustration.

In the viral X clip, Siskey paints a hilarious picture of Lane Kiffin, calmly driving a flustered Saban. “Yeah, we’re on our way to Orlando,” Kiffin responds as if it’s no big deal. But the scene takes a twist as Saban erupts, yelling at Siskey instead. The baffled Siskey points out, “Coach Lane is sitting right next to you…3 feet to your left!” He then jokes that Saban was probably yelling at him too, but Kiffin is “too chill” for that.

Now, Lane Kiffin himself chimed in on the story, reposting it on Instagram story with a playful correction. “Not exactly, but still funny!!! yelling at him so I could hear him really yelling at me right next to him” he wrote.  Kiffin clarified that Saban was strategically yelling at Siskey so he could hear the intensity without being directly addressed.

The incident ultimately led to Saban rushing into the ESPN press conference 10-15 minutes late. But the overall story highlights Kiffin’s laid-back personality in general. 

It seems the former Alabama staffers are enjoying reliving these moments, and nowadays, Lane Kiffin too casually joins them.

A few days ago on the same podcast, former Alabama staffer Nick Perins shared a dramatic story about Nick Saban from 2015. Saban, known for not changing his practice schedule for anyone, made sure his offensive lineman Dominick Jackson completed practice even though it clashed with his flight time. Saban then arranged for a trooper to get Jackson to the airport on time. After years, Perkins humorously recalled this stating, “What in the hell did he do to get Dominick Jackson on that plane?” 

He also shared the story on his X handle, saying how “Some people have drugs. Some people have alcohol. I have Nick Saban stories.” Now here again, Lane Kiffin reshared the post with a laughing emoji, reminiscing about his time with the legendary coach. It seems Kiffin misses the good old days under Saban.
