Is Kirby Smart the new mastermind of college football, surpassing even Nick Saban's legendary status?

To change the sail of a boat, the captain often commands against the sail. The same law applies on the field too, when a team is lacking or if there is a chance of improvement of any sort, the coaches end up implementing or teaching them something that might benefit them in the long run. Something similar happened with Carson Beck and Co.

The clever adaptation by Kirby Smart, the HC of Georgia was from none other than the legendary Nick Saban and the said adaptation reveal was done by none other than Travaris Robinson, the right-hand man for Georgia acting as co-defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs.

Georgia Bulldogs are gearing up as they should after being named the No. 1 team in the 2024 preseason. Now that the bar of expectations is set, they also need to act right and prove that they are worth all the beliefs that fans have in them. With that being said, they have their first full pads on practice today, which is August 6th, as the team prepares for the coming 2024 season. Before all of this Travaris Robinson, the co-defensive coach for Georgia Bulldogs and also the right-hand man for Kirby Smart was made available to the media. During this he made many statements, one such statement was his telling how Kirby made Carson Beck and Co. flip positively with the help of Nick Saban’s set legacy in work. He said, “Some of the core values of an organization and how we do things [are similar] … I saw what Coach Smart was able to do some of the things we did at Alabama and expound upon some of those things” The fact that Nick Saban and Kirby Smart have worked together for a long time, brings in the angle of their core teaching values coming out of one similar thought process. The same was shared by Jordan D. Hill (a fan), on his X account on August 6th, stating what Travasis had to say about the core values and their similarity to that of Nick’s model.

Kirby has done a great job when it comes to him seeking knowledge from THE Nick Saban. Kirby was able to take some things from what they did in Alabama and then, with the help of this, he excelled in Georgia as a whole. From putting in effort in practice to the energy that the team has and the kind of different things that they do, all of it was done greatly and for sure it came out of the values of what they (Nick and Saban) worked on together, as pointed by Travaris too. During the media appearance, when asked about how similar Nick and Kirby are, Travaris said, “…getting after guys and holding guys accountable, I would say it’s equal.” Well, the accountability rule also seems to be working fine for Georgia as they are ready to shine.

Have an interesting take?

Regardless of Nick officially retiring as a coach, he did not leave everyone in disdain. He is right there if anyone needs any kind of guidance or support. This fact was also accepted by Travaris when, during the media appearance, he said, “Coach Saban has been a mentor to all of us. We talk to him all the time. He’s a guy who everything we learn, we learn from him, he’s been great to us.” Well for a fact, Nick has been great to ‘everyone’.

When Travaris was asked about his view on UGA vs. Bama in the SEC Championship Game that took place on December 2, 2023; in which Nick’s Alabama came out as a winner; he said, “It was just two good football teams going at it and one football team happened to win the game. It was nothing that they gave away, it was nothing like that.” The kind of positivism that is reflected in his statement gives hope for a much more wonderful 2024 season for Georgia. With all the guidance that is flowing in Georgia is set to have a showdown against Clemson in Atlanta on August 31st. Let us hope that the best team wins.
