Kirby Smart’s got another reason to brag about his recruiting skills!  His former Georgia Bulldog, cornerback Tyson Campbell, just cashed in on a massive new deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Recent reports say Campbell signed a sweet 4-year contract worth a whopping $76.5 million, with over $53.4 million guaranteed. That’s serious money for a young player!

UGA recruiting analyst Trent Smallwood couldn’t resist pointing out how this could be a big win for Coach Smart on the recruiting trail. On July 23rd, he posted on his X handle: “Just another recruiting tool to go in Kirby Smart’s pocket. Former #UGA DB Tyson Campbell getting paid.”

Now, Campbell might not have had the flashiest stats in college due to some injuries, but his talent was undeniable. Thus the Jaguars took a chance on him in the 2021 draft, and it’s working out great. Since then, Campbell’s made 203 tackles, grabbed 6 interceptions, and become a rising star for the Jags.

He’s not alone, either! Campbell teams up with another former Bulldog, Travon Walker, on the Jaguars’ defense. Walker was the top overall pick in the 2022 draft, so it looks like Georgia is taking over the NFL! And who knows, maybe Walker’s next in line for a big contract himself. For now, the spotlight shines bright on Campbell. He is now the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, even though he hasn’t made the Pro Bowl yet. This deal is definitely turning heads.

But here’s the real win for Kirby Smart: his recruiting and player development skills are on full display. He’s even got a knack for finding top talent and turning them into stars as he spills the beans.

Kirby Smart’s recipe for recruiting success

Coach Kirby Smart’s got the winning formula down pat at Georgia. Last year’s 13-1 season and back-to-back national titles speak for themselves. But what’s the secret sauce behind these victories? Now, Smart’s all about building a team with the right mindset. Here’s what Smart looks for in recruits: “Do they love football and embrace being part of something bigger than themselves??…are they selfless?” Smart said earlier this year. He wants players who are hungry to learn, and not just focused on personal stats or winning records.

Now, this approach seems to be working. Georgia’s 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, is ranked number one in the nation and the SEC. They’ve already snagged four 5-star defensive players this year alone! Linebackers Chris Cole and Justin Williams, and cornerbacks KJ Bolden and Ellis Robinson IV are all future stars.
