Is Kirby Smart's confidence in Carson Beck justified, or is Georgia in for a tough season?

With the clock ticking for the upcoming 2024 season, it’s a bittersweet moment for the Georgia Bulldogs as Brock Bowers will no longer play for them as he’s off to the NFL. The catch here is despite Brock’s exit why Kirby Smart still looks unbothered. Is he not worried about the tight-end defense? The answer lies in last year’s flaws.

You win some you lose some. After Brock left, there were a few TEs to fill in his shoes, but there is one that stands out. Isn’t it crazy to believe that one man can give it all in? Kirby Smart knows what he is saying and to protect his star QB, Carson Beck, he has immense faith in none other than Oscar Delp.

Kirby Smart has been showcasing unwavering support to Oscar Delp, his versatile gameplay and physical strength differentiate him from Brock. Kirby believes that Delp could protect team QB player Carson Beck and create a good defensive administration with his fellow teammates. “He’s a quiet leader. The guy’s taken a lot of reps since being here. He’s doing a good job leading in that room, as well as Luckie and the two young kids.” Even Todd Hartley, Georgi’s Tight End Coach, also agreed with Kirby earlier in an interview. He mentioned how having belief in his players is important for better gameplay. Ben Yoursek and Lawson Luckie are ready to take over as last year was not so great physically for the players with the injuries. Luckily, Oscar Delp was the only tight-end for every game last season. This could be an added advantage for his upcoming season.

Carson Beck last year’s performance was quite upsetting for his fans, as the offense seemed weak. But Head Coach Kirby Smart is sure about his decision as earlier in an interview with ESPN’s Chris Low he mentioned how Beck didn’t get a fair chance to play as they did try to protect him too much and with the passing year his game got better and better. Well, it’s hard to find a mentor with such a positive and encouraging mindset. As both the players are exceptional, it will be interesting to see how they match Bower’s gameplay. Kirby is quite confident about the future of the Bulldogs. It’s going to get spicy. Let’s how things take a turn.

While Brock Bowers’ exit marks the end of an era for the Georgia Bulldogs, the emergence of Oscar Delp and Carson Beck’s partnership has reassured his fans and the coach alike. “Delp, as the tight end could lift the running backs. Not that Bowers wasn’t a good blocker, it’s just that Delp is good at it” Hartley still feels it. Still, the tight end is a vital part of the passing attack, as it’s more about the player’s skills.

On the August 12 episode of The Number One College Football Show, RJ Young said “I’m already hearing people comparing Oscar Delp to Brock Bowers I would need to see it because Brock Bowers was the best tight end in football for the last three years and I would love to see what Oscar can do with that”. Delp and the Georgia offense will have all the eyes on them, eager to see the next wave of Bulldogs rise. Whether it’s a win for Kirby Smart’s confidence or not, time will tell, till then keep assuming!
