Georgia Bulldogs’ victories are often celebrated with head coach Kirby Smart’s cha-cha moves, which recently prompted the host of the On3 Recruits podcast to switch a discussion to a quirky topic. And what better debate away from the numbers than Smart’s victory groove? While discussing his signature moves, Smart landed a witty take on the legend, Nick Saban, and his wife, Terry.
The Georgia HC tagged Saban “old school“ in contrast to his funky dance routine. The credit for the decency that the ex-Alabama Crimson Tide HC maintains while dancing goes to none other than his wife, Terry Saban. While it was a tease, Smart proved he holds Saban in his personal “Hall of Respect Fame” at the SEC Media Days.

The now Bulldogs HC spent nine seasons under Saban, ranging from LSU, Miami Dolphins, and Alabama Crimson Tide. Over the years, Smart has picked up the best of the best secrets from the legend’s coaching playbook he applies to this day for his program. But mind you, Smart won’t be following Saban’s lead on the dance floor. On the podcast, the Bulldogs HC pointed out, “Our dance styles are completely different though. He’s old school. He’s like the guy that hits the backboard and basketball and uses the glass. I’m not a bank player. I’m trying to strip the net and go same thing in dancing he’s old school.“
Till now, everyone used to turn to Saban for advice. Have you ever wondered who the ex-Crimson Tide HC turns to when he needs any advice? It’s none other than his better half for 52 years, Terry. Smart and Saban’s bond allowed the Georgia HC to pass a light-hearted jab: “He’s got a patented dance that he can do and he does a great job of that and I think Miss Terry probably taught him.” Even though Smart might have made fun of the legend, he keeps Saban on a pedestal.

Smart pays homage to Saban
On July 16, Smart visited the SEC Media Days 2024. The day before, the famous Nick Saban was stopped from entering because he did not have credentials. Supporting his mentor, Smart first commented, “I got in here without a credential today.”

He then bounced on the opportunity to douse Saban with flattery. Smart walked on a path of gratitude and confessed, “A couple words I want to say to Coach Saban, who meant so much to me in my career. First of all, the words he shared at the ESPYs the other night were incredible. Very touching, very moving.” The now Georgia HC is one lucky man who found a mentor, a friend, a competitor, and all three in one person who encouraged him to be a better person.
For 11 years, Smart and Saban shared the same room, which ranged from a staff room to a defensive room or defensive back room. To date, the Bulldogs HC gives the GOAT all the credit for his success.
