Is Kirby Smart's leadership to blame for Georgia's off-field issues? What's your take on this mess?

Things are not looking good for Kirby Smart! Georgia football is once again under the knife with another arrest from Rodarius “RaRa” Thomas. The star WR was arrested in Athens on grounds of multiple felonies on Friday and is indefinitely suspended from the football team. The former Mississippi State player’s first arrest on family violence charges came in January 2023 for felony false imprisonment.

Digging into his misdemeanor, we also found that Rara Thomas also had three speeding violations from January through May this year, as reported by OnlineAthens. Even after an awful speeding car accident that claimed the lives of a Georgia staffer and player, these Bulldogs can’t seem to tame their young blood. And the number of Georgia arrests relating to speeding after that fatal incident will blow your mind!

Fox Sports radio host Aaron Torres just took the heat to the next level on the latest episode on his YouTube channel. After yet another situation by Georgia with the law, Torres gets straight to the point saying, “I don’t want any more excuses. I don’t want any more explanation. To all of you dudes on Georgia football, stop breaking the law.” He also dragged the HC into the picture saying, “And by the way Kirby Smart it’s time to actually hold your guys responsible a little bitThere really is a kind of a culture of racing and driving and frankly, you know lack of accountability in the football program as it pertains to law enforcement.”

Speeding seems to have become a trend among Georgia players even after the unfortunate car crash in January 2023. The accident claimed the lives of Georgia OL Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy following their second straight National Championship victory. Now the shocking reality is that there had been “at least 29 arrests or citations for speeding, reckless driving or racing” over the last 18 months since that fatal incident. Truly, given this alarming figure, we need to ask the same question that Torres did — “Why is Kirby Smart getting a pass?

Kirby Smart on recurrent driving citations and arrests

What is Kirby Smart doing to tame the horde of unruly, rule-breaking players? As far as the driving citations and arrests go, the Bulldogs’ HC made a statement during his speech at SEC Media Days in Dallas. He said of the program’s efforts in educating players of the dangers of speed-driving, “Our process and the things we put in place, I feel very strongly about. We do as much or more education as anybody in the country.”

Some of the player penalties that he mentioned are suspensions, “substantial” fines, and even dismissals. Still, the Bulldogs seem to enjoy walking too close to the fire and too comfortable in breaking rules. Perhaps, Smart needs to be smart enough to find a solution that really works.
