Kirby Smart has some good news. Georgia’s football program has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. With many players facing legal troubles, like DUI charges and even an assault arrest for wide receiver Rara Thomas, it’s been a tough offseason for the Bulldogs.

But amidst the drama, Kirby Smart has managed to pull off a major recruiting win. The team landed top-rated 4-star offensive tackle Juan Gaston, who chose Georgia over schools like Oregon and Tennessee.

Connor Riley and Brandon Adams, the Dawg Nation podcast hosts, were quite excited about the news. Riley described Gaston as “he is roughly the size of a barge,” and Adams called it a “pretty big recruiting win.” The duo stressed the addition of the 6-foot-7 tackler on the offense. It now adds to the depth on the offensive line, especially with quarterback Carson Beck heading to the NFL next year. Adams thus added, “This has been a guy that I’ve wanted for the entirety of this cycle. One of the things I love about our state in this particular cycle is how deep it is on the lines of scrimmage.”

Gaston joins another massive 6-foot-10 tackle, Jahzare Jackson, on the Georgia offense next year. The Bulldogs are also vying for five-star OT David Sanders Jr. but face tough competition from Tennessee and Ohio State. Noting all these, Adams said, “I think a year after Georgia really had a very lucrative haul with a lot of offensive linemen, to be able to come back and add guys of the caliber of Gaston…you’re essentially supplementing your depth year after year. I think that’s a pretty sizeable win for Georgia.”

However, Smart isn’t overlooking the defense, either!

Kirby Smart has got talents on the defense

Kirby Smart is adding big names on offense and defense, too! The head coach is trying to make Georgia’s 2025 roster unstoppable. The Dawgs are already No. 1 in the 2024 recruiting class, and they’re not slowing down. They’ve got a stacked roster with five-star players like Ellis Robinson IV, KJ Bolden, Justin Williams, and Chris Cole. But it doesn’t stop there.

Georgia is on the verge of landing two more five-star defensive tackles, Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry. Last week on the Glory UGA – Georgia Bulldogs Football show, the host discussed how highly coveted it is “to land both Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry who, by the way, are the No. 1 and No. 2 defensive tackles in the entire country.” And there’s also an intriguing German kid called JJ Hanne in the pipeline, who’s new to football but could be a real game-changer.

It looks like Georgia is dominating the recruiting trail now. They’re not just getting top talent but adding depth at every position possible. Sure, Smart’s team will be scary good for years to come.
