When it comes to fitting in the right shoes, one needs to act up if the shoes are bigger than the size that they wear. The same happened with Kalen DeBoer when he had to fit in the shoes of Nick Saban after he left Alabama in the hand of Kalen, teaching all that he could in those 17 years of coaching.

During those years, things came into being and some grew old with time. One such tradition was the radio show “Hey Coach”. Even after Nick is gone, Kalen has decided to preserve the tradition, hinting at how much he respects the set legacy of Nick.

Some people just come in and leave their mark forever. One such person was THE Nick Saban when we talked about football. After he left and Kalen Deboer took charge, the 17-year-old legacy remained intact with just a few changes here and there. Kalen Deboer has kept the “Hey Coach” radio show much alive, which will be aired on Wednesday, 6-7:30 CT. Mike Rodak shared this news, on his X account. The Tweet read, “Alabama’s weekly “Hey Coach” radio show will now air on Wednesday evenings, 6-7:30pm CT, with Kalen DeBoer being joined by a player each week beginning August 28. It aired on Thursday nights under Nick Saban.” When Nick Saban was around, “Hey Coach” used to air on Thursday nights, the tradition still kept alive by Kalen is a sign of how much he respects the legacy and the disciple that was around when Nick was guiding the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The wonder man, Nick, nearly dominated the football fraternity with that talent of his also came with the constant pressure of proving that they are the best. The responsibilities then being shifted onto the players to perform at their level best. The pressure was way too visible. Now that they are in the hands of Kalen DeBoer who does not have any experience as such with SEC but still has a great philosophy when it comes to handling the team or securing the best talent from the nation, the players seem much happier than they were with the 72-year-old Nick Saban. But while keeping the tradition and legacy alive, did Kalen change anything? Yes, he did!

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kalen DeBoer truly uphold Nick Saban's legacy while bringing fresh changes to Alabama's locker room culture?

Have an interesting take?

Kalen has brought in the much-needed ‘fun’ to the team. During the August 2nd episode of The Next Round, Clint Lamb discussed the Alabama practices with Kalen. He said, “I’m not saying there wasn’t energy at Nick Saban practices, but I feel like guys are having a little bit more fun.” Well, of course, Kalen seems much more lively and friendly with his players. Kalen has also made changes to the practice timings. He has shifted them to the morning slot. That is a major change but a much-needed change and the players are loving it too.

Kalen has done a great done. The recruitment strategy that he has used that made it possible for him to bring in new hires to the team, even though Nick Saban left Alabama; is a major flex. With all the composed calmness that Kalen has in him, for sure he is going to take Alabama to newer heights. He gets the confidence from the faith that everyone has in him. For sure, he is going to live up to the mark and make it evident that bringing him was the right choice. He upholds the set legacy, implements necessary changes that he thinks are needed, and ensures the players remain disciplined and focused.
