Can Kalen DeBoer outshine Nick Saban in the recruiting game? What do you think?

Will Kalen DeBoer be able to emulate Nick Saban’s recruiting success? During his 17 years in Alabama, the former HC enabled the Crimson Tide to sign several No. 1 ranked recruiting classes. One of the top players is the program’s highest-rated recruit Bryce Young who went on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Could DeBoer have it in him to pull off similar stunts?

Maybe it’s early to say, but the first impressions are looking pretty solid. And the conquest is taken further with the satisfaction expressed by one of the highly-touted prospects of the 2026 class. It looks like DeBoer won the heart of the nation’s No. 7 ATH on his first-ever visit to the campus.

Brandon Arrington finally got a chance to visit Alabama at their final recruiting summer event during the Champions Cook-Out. As per a report by On3, this is what Arrington said about his Sunday visit with Kalen DeBoer’s team — “Meeting the other coaches, it made me feel like home. I met the head coach today for the first time. He made it feel like home. I most definitely want to go back there for another visit. Bama has been the best school right now on my radar.”

While everything Arrington said about the visit is tinged with positivity for DeBoer, his last sentence is notable. The two-way elite prospect is highly sought after by several programs, including top CFB teams like Michigan, Georgia, and USC, among others. If DeBoer is able to land this favored threat, he’ll be closer to replicating the recruiting coup that Saban is widely known for.

Revisiting Nick Saban’s recruiting feat in Alabama

There’s a reason why Alabama thrived so well under Nick Saban, who ultimately led them to six national championships. Combined with his legendary coaching and unrivaled staff, Saban put together some of the nation’s top players through recruiting. While there have been many elite recruits, some players stood out, including the 2020 class QB Bryce Young, who joined Alabama as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect. And that’s not where it ended.

Young went on to win the 2021 Heisman Trophy and became the first overall pick in the NFL after spending three seasons under Saban from 2020-22. One of Saban’s latest high-ranked recruits is 5-star Edge Rusher Keon Keely of the 2023 class who joined the Crimson Tide as the nation’s No. 2 overall player in his class. They’re just a couple of elite players among numerous highly-rated recruits who Saban signed to Alabama. If Kalen DeBoer keeps up with his charismatic recruitment, he could become the next Nick Saban in recruiting. We never know.
