Is Jordan Seaton's playoff dream realistic, or is he setting himself up for disappointment?

Do you think Colorado could be a playoff team this season? Indeed, they will have to face some of the Big 12 powerhouses, but their confidence is at a wild level. Coach Prime’s confidence has spread throughout Colorado and the Buffs players, including Jordan Seaton.

After a productive day with the offense, the 5-star OT starting his true freshman season delivered a bold statement. He said, “We got to stack on this and the more days we stack like this, don’t see nothing less than the college football playoff.” But as always, people are paying attention to his words, and his statement has become a subject of debate.

In a new YouTube episode on The Coach JB Show with Big Smitty on August 11, Jason Brown and Shawn Smith had differing opinions, with Coach JB slamming the claim while Big Smitty stood in support of the playoff contender statement. Colorado alum Matt McChesney also shared his thoughts about Seaton’s claim. He said, “I’m not going to sit here and just say they’re going to make the playoff. Their schedule, even though it’s in the Big 12 and it’s easier, it’s still pretty tough.”

While McChesney believes Colorado could be a better team in the Big 12 with potential 8-9 wins, he didn’t stray from what could be the reality. With roster changes via the transfer portal, the 16-team conference already has some elite teams like Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kansas, and more. Still, McChesney’s hope still shines for the Buffs as he added, “They got a good schedule. It’s hard and that’s the way we want it. So I think there’s a lot of potential here for them to do some big s**t.” Let’s take a deeper look at the Buffs 2024 schedule.

Colorado’s 2024 schedule in the Big 12

This season isn’t particularly easy for Colorado, which returns to the Big 12 with three other teams—Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah. The Big 12 has some formidable teams, like Oklahoma State, which earned a trip to Arlington last season. Their season opener is a difficult matchup against North Dakota State, an FCS powerhouse with nine national championships.

After that, Colorado will face Nebraska and CSU, which the Buffs are expected to win. But it’s the latter half of the schedule that becomes tricky. Out of the top six teams in the Big 12, Colorado will face five in the latter half of the season, ending with Kansas on November 23 at Arrowhead Stadium and Oklahoma State on November 29 at Folsom Field. To make the schedule more challenging, there are no weeks off. Will Colorado beat all odds and turn Seaton’s statement into reality? We just have to wait and watch.
