Los Angeles Chargers not striking an offer to Jim Harbaugh led to chaos in the NCAA and the NFL community. Questions about the reluctance were eating away fans’ minds. It is not only a $90 million contract that is at stake, but it’s also the consequences of Harbaugh choosing the Chargers over Michigan, a team whom he has served since 2015.

The 16th of January marked Jim Harbaugh’s first interview with the Los Angeles Chargers. The team is his alma mater, hence, Harbaugh has the added advantage of fostering good relations with the Spanos family. That, along with his Super Bowl appearance as 49ers head coach, earned him another round of interviews with the Chargers.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter was the first one to break the news through Instagram. “Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is expected to meet this week for a second time with the Los Angeles Chargers about their head-coaching job, per sources,” read the caption.

The move has come after the Chargers rivals in securing Jim Harbaugh as their head coach, the Atlanta Falcons, made an identical announcement. Per ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, the Atlanta Falcons are also scheduling a second interview with Jim Harbaugh. However, the dates of the interview are not clear yet. Per Rothstein, the sources are “Not authorized to speak publicly, the search is still ‘wide open,’ and the franchise is happy with the way it has gone thus far.”

Atlanta also has a second interview with Bill Belichick but has yet not concluded. On the other hand, the Spanos family also can not select one head coach, as they interview one candidate after the other.

Chargers’ hunt for head coach intensifies by day

Seems that Jim Harbaugh isn’t the only one who has been invited to a second interview with the Chargers. Even though Jim Harbaugh has been a favorable candidate for the Chargers role, the Chargers interviewed Raheem Morris after their interview with Harbaugh on Saturday, which raised questions about Harbaugh not being Spanos’s first preference. Well, Morris has already gotten a call for another interview from the Falcons, Seahawks, Commanders, and Panthers.

However, David Shaw, a fellow candidate for the Chargers’ role who interviewed with them, reported that “ It’s inevitable at this point.” Harbaugh is a former Chargers player from 1999 to 2000. Hence, there is a very high chance that the Chargers will hire the 60-year-old as a replacement for the fired Brandon Staley.
