2009 was an odd year for Michigan. The then AD Bill Martin was attempting to bring in a fresh, modern twist to the ‘3-yards and a cloud of dust’ old-school style of the legendary ‘Michigan Man’ Lloyd Carr. Rich Rodriguez jumped headfirst into the lion’s den without knowing the expectations he would be bombarded by. However, fans were much more focused on the abruptness with which Coach Carr left, rather, than on criticizing him as they claimed that he ‘preferred’ Rodriguez and reportedly ‘set him up poorly’, as John U Bacon’s book ‘3 and Out’ sheds light on this as well.

However, 2024 marked the year that dusted off the dust from fans’ memories as they witnessed the other ‘Michigan Man’ leaving UM. Leaving the Wolverines with a natty win amidst the unstable environment, Jim Harbaugh became the beacon of happiness for the Wolverines fans. But his shift to the Chargers triggered the same fans. Moreover, Harbaughfull-o taking the best of coaches, the pillars of Michigan’s foundation with him, triggered them even more. Hence, Harbaugh found himself at the gunpoint of fans claiming him to be the ‘next Lloyd Carr’.

“Sherrone has an impossible task now with the schedule, lack of NIL, and losing coaches, and portal,” believes a Maize and Blue fan. Jesse Minter, Michigan’s defensive coach, under whose guidance Michigan’s defense achieved a historic rank 2, is reported to leave with Jim Harbaugh. While the situation is yet to be officiated, the star of Michigan’s program, Ben Herbert, has already signed a deal with the Chargers. That, and the top-notch players of a program like JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum not using up the last year of their eligibility and declaring to enter the NFL draft, was another shock.

Hence, Jim Harbaugh allegedly became the modern-day Lloyd Carr. This is not the worst part, though. The fan also believes that Michigan AD “Warde Manuel is worse than Dave Bandon,” the former Michigan AD who took up the job with Rich Rodriguez. Manuel is also harshly criticized by the fans for not securing Jim Harbaugh well in advance, and for also delaying negotiations with him after the sign-stealing farce, per sources. However, fans appreciate Sherrone Moore standing up for himself amidst the chaos.

Even surrounded by allegations, Jim Harbaugh wrote in a text message to express his confidence in Moore leading the program. “The only person I would want to do the job. I have 100% conviction that he will make us all very proud!!!” With Harbaugh’s confidence and his legacy as the set bar of standard, Moore is gearing up for the next season.
