Is Jedd Fisch the savior the Washington Huskies desperately needed after DeBoer's disastrous tenure?

Kalen DeBoer is a name synonymous with all Crimson Tide fans. However, only a few know the history he has had with the world of college football. From coaching Sioux Falls from 2005 to 09′ and getting them 3 national championships to making Fresno State a formidable force on the leaderboard. DeBoer has touched teams and lifted them with his offensive mastery and ability to connect with players. Although all the camps eventually had to bid farewell to DeBoer, the only team that took the hardest hit was the Huskies.

On July 26th, The Next Round Live brought us some solid commitments from Jedd Fisch regarding the Huskies. Amidst the issues that happened back at camp concerning player and staff members’ departure from the team, Fisch has remained nothing but confident about the program. “We believe that we have a chance and an opportunity to win championships as we have in the past,” Fisch mentioned during his appearance at Big Ten Media Day. Washington under Kalen DeBoer had flourished back in the day. The team grabbed two national championships and also has a history of receiving 18 conference championships as well. After DeBoer departed from the team, the camp suffered a massive loss. Jabbar Muhammad, Mishael Powell, and Asa Turner all hit the transfer portal.

DeBoer’s decision to leave UW is something that can be considered controversial by many. While some fans and analysts think that leaving in the wake of a massive upcoming contract was foolish, others would happily argue that getting the spot that Nick Saban left behind is much greater. However, now it all falls on Fisch to carry the team and bring it to the same success that DeBoer managed. But is he the right man for the job?

Not to be doubted

Fisch took over Arizona back in 2020, and he slowly built the program to greatness. From ending his first season with 1-11 to going on to climb 5-7 in 2022 and then 10-3 in 2023. If that ain’t some solid determination, then I don’t know what is. Fisch has also worked with great programs like the Patriots, Rams, and Seahawks. UW athletic director Troy Dannen had high praise for Fisch. “Sought out a coach who would build on our foundation,” Dennen mentioned. And Jedd Fisch fit the role perfectly.

While UW went on to have 25-3 under Kalen DeBoer and also had Michael Penix Jr. as their QB (who went on to grab the Heisman), Huskies fans will wait eagerly to see what magic Fisch cooks up this season for the team.
