Shedeur Sanders gets a shocking Heisman snub! The coveted Heisman Trophy has become pretty much a quarterback’s award lately. Seven of the last eight winners have been QBs. And this year, a lot of people were thinking Shedeur had a good shot at joining that club.
He’s been getting a lot of hype, even as a potential top pick in the NFL Draft next year. However, except for one expert!
On3’s JD Pickell just dropped his list of potential Heisman finalists this July 31st. And guess who’s missing? Shedeur Sanders. The Buffs’ star QB didn’t even make it to the honorable mentions. Now Pickell’s got four quarterbacks on his list: Carson Beck from Georgia, Jalen Milroe from Alabama, Dillon Gabriel from Oregon, and Quinn Ewers from Texas.

However, the On3 expert isn’t very confident about how Georgia’s offense is working, so Beck is out. He’s also not happy with how Dillon is doing in Oregon, though he was impressed with his time at Oklahoma and USC. Finally, he has high praise for QBs Milroe and Ewers. He believes in Jalen Milroe’s arm talent and speed as a dual-threat QB but is unsure about his fit under new HC Kalen DeBoer. So, he’s all in for Ewers, who is entering his third year with Steve Sarkisian’s offense. “I love the weapons, I love the schedule, I think Quinn Ewers wins the Heisman Trophy,” Pickell confidently says.
But Shedeur’s name was noticeably missing from Pickell’s list. He even gave honorable mentions to quarterbacks Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart, as well as defensive back Caleb Downs and wide receiver Luther Burden, but Shedeur was left out of those mentions too! Looks like Finebaum’s words on the Buffaloes quarterback might be coming true.

Have an interesting take?
Shedeur Sanders is a talented quarterback, and there’s no doubt. He can throw the ball really well, just like Quinn Ewers. In fact, both Ewers and Shedeur have around 69% pass completion rates, making them coveted signal callers for their teams. But there’s a big difference: Ewers plays for a 12-2 winning team, and Sanders plays for a team that won only four games last year. Now, that’s a huge deal when it comes to awards like the Heisman Trophy.
Even last month, Sportscaster Paul Finebaum said it straight up: Colorado’s bad record is a big problem for Shedeur. He said, “It’s about momentum. You start off with big numbers.” Thus, if you’re on a losing team, it’s tough to win the Heisman, no matter how good you are. The ESPN analyst also brutally added, “I mean, Shedeur Sanders, could he get around the fact that his father’s team is going to be terrible? I don’t think so, no.”

In fact, Shedeur also got sacked way too much last year because of Colorado’s poor offensive line. If that doesn’t improve, it could not only hurt his chances of winning Heisman, but also get picked high in the 2025 NFL Draft.
