“No greater coach in the NFL than Jim Harbaugh,” said John Harbaugh about his rival team’s head coach, as his Ravens lifted the Lombardi trophy nearly 11 years ago. Jim’s elder brother was in absolute awe of what Jim Harbaugh had forged as the 49ers’ coach. Falling short of a mere 3 points, the Super Bowl fire inside Jim Harbaugh was never gratified.

He has a chance now! After two interviews, and his well-fostered relations with Dean Spanos and his family, Jim Harbaugh ultimately shook hands with the Chargers on Wednesday as their head coach. The hire will be a historical one for the franchise, as this will be the first time they hired someone with prior NFL coaching experience. His fresh off-the-chart National Championship at Michigan is an added embellishment to his records. Unlike many others at Michigan, JJ McCarthy shared a note with a cryptic warning for the Chargers as they gear up for their days with Harbaugh.

Harbaugh’s 9-year spell at Michigan boomed when he appointed JJ McCarthy as the starting QB in 2022. Being a witness to Harbaugh’s relentless training when it came to championships, it was only natural for him to pen down a cautious note to the NFL as they anticipated what was about to unleash. “His story isn’t finished yet!” asserted McCarthy, possibly hinting at the unfinished SB legacy Harbaugh is looking forward to change.

Referring to him as ‘THE Michigan man’ and a ‘forever legend’, McCarthy kindled a special relationship with Harbaugh. So, it was evident by the QB’s undying support through his ‘Bet’ campaign on X when Harbaugh was suspended under sign-stealing accusations. He also donned the ‘Free Harbaugh’ t-shirts proudly during this period. Many believe the impending sign-stealing verdict to be a major reason behind him not accepting Michigan’s hefty contract.

However, Jim Harbaugh’s innate desire to rejoin the NFL runs way back than the sign-stealing farce. Two years ago, he interviewed with Minnesota. Last year it was the Broncos. Ultimately, the Chargers were the ones to lock him down with their five-year-long contract, per Adam Schefter.

The Los Angeles Chargers will reportedly pay him $12.5 million a year, more than he was offered to stay on at Michigan. Yet it is less than the initially rumored $18 million per year. This makes his five-year salary roughly $62.5 million. Well, Harbaugh already flaunts one National championship at Michigan, one of his alma mater. Now, all eyes are set on him as he embarks on another journey at his other alma mater.
