Colorado’s roster is looking more promising as Coach Prime entices more players to commit. The 17-year-old two-sport athlete Gage Goldberg committed to the Buffs on January 14 after flipping from Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement. His pro wrestler dad Bill Goldberg has something to say about his decision.

Gage Goldberg is already a well-known recruit in Texas as a valuable catcher. The 6’0, 210-pound Texas native linebacker will serve as the walk-on for the Buffs in 2024. For Deion Sanders to bag this two-sport athlete is a testament to Coach Prime’s hype in his first season as the Buffs HC.

In a recent YouTube discussion with Brian Howell, Bill Goldberg revealed that “it’s nothing more than an opportunity” that made them choose Deion Sanders’ co. amidst other programs. The 57-year-old wrestler said, “It’s not favoritism by any stretch of imagination.”

Bill Goldberg and Deion Sanders might have played together in the NFL and remained good friends since. But his son’s intention to join Colorado is purely not based on favoritism. He added, “If it was favoritism, I would’ve asked for a scholarship and I would ask for him to start. I want him to get in a situation where because of his surroundings, he will excel to a level that is equal or above what they want.” Family might also be a driving factor leading to Gage Goldberg’s commitment to Colorado.

The junior Goldberg formerly played in Texas and was the first-team all-district 12-5A player. He further added, “I cannot wait to pursue this next step of my athletic career!” With his father’s good relationship with his HC, Gage Goldberg has a very strong potential to thrive alongside Coach Prime’s sons Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders this season before they declare for the NFL in 2025. The 2024 season could make or break his trust in Colorado after his father’s strong confidence in Coach Prime.
