Deion Sanders’ confidant, Dalvin Truth roasts UCF for playing copycat with Buffs’ tactics. Colorado Buffaloes are often drawn through dirt with Coach Prime pushed in hot water for relying too much on social media. And look how the tables turned now? Truth then dug through news archives to find an old bite that glorified UCF for something the Buffaloes would have been stripped of otherwise. However, it failed to shift Deion Sanders from his stand to build player brands.
On August 1, Truth donned the hat of Deion’s defender. He shared a snapshot of a throwback article by For The Win from 2021 in which the headline read, “UCF’s players wore social media handles on their spring game jerseys and it was so cool.” And here’s what Truth had to say about UCF copying Deion’s tactics in the caption that read, “It’s cool when they do it, it’s a problem when we do it (f*ck) em #cuvseverybody.”

So what’s the hoopla all about? On August 1, Sportscenter gave a shoutout to the Buffs sharing some pictures from their first pre-season fall camp. And something looked different. It was Shedeur Sanders and company’s jersey which bore the Buffs QB’s and the players’ social media handles in the back above their jersey number. And BOOM! It was enough for the Colorado haters gang to come under one roof to strip off Deion’s program and they lassoed Oregon HC Dan Lanning’s comment, “They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins.”

But what Truth brings forward is how the naysayers have turned blind eyes to other programs that walked on the same path even before Deion’s program did. Much before Colorado, the UCF players flaunted their social media handles on the back of their jerseys like QB Dillon Gabriel and defensive tackle Kalia Davis. The amount of hate received has been so brutal, that Truth had to dig up stories from the past to defend themselves.
Deion stood firm while defending his vision
Last season, when Lanning hurled the brutal jab, Deion came forward with his side of the story, openly confessing his purpose. Coach Prime justified, “Everybody wants to be noticed. Everybody wants to be followed, everybody wants to be that person, so why not help them?” Sean Lewis too stood beside the Buffs HC calling the initiative unique, “Give the guys an opportunity to build their brand and I think it’s an outstanding job by (Deion) to think outside the box and offer that unique perspective.”

But no, it did not save Colorado from the haters’ wrath. Things were turning a bit better, but this year’s transfer portal came as a blow when the cornerback Cormani McClain hit the transfer portal. And while bidding farewell, he cited the reason for his departure as, “I feel like I just don’t want to play for clicks. I actually want to be involved with a great leading program that’s going to develop players.”
Deion’s biggest critic, Coach Jason Brown too landed a strong attack on the Buffs HC and commented, “Colorado, Deion filming everything, putting it out there, blinging, checking diamonds….what do you think about it?” That being said, it is always the Buffs who are mercilessly torn to shreds when UCF lands praise using the same tactics.
