Deion brings so many eyeballs.” This ain’t wrong. Deion Sanders is a mastermind when it comes down to marketing and it is visible through how he made Colorado one of the most sought-after programs after he stepped in. Albeit a rough 2023 season, the hype around CU has not died down. Andy Staples put it down perfectly, “Everybody who plays Colorado wants to kick the crap out of Colorado.” Any publicity is good publicity, so let’s find out from Uncle Neely how Deion and his team made CU the giant it is today.

On 20th July, The Pregame Show decided to put out quite an insightful episode. When Chico brought in the main question of how Well Off, Reach The People, and Pregame work, Neely broke it down in detail. “We were together at Jackson State doing this, and so we have a good sense of what fits somebody else’s style of coverage, you know, versus the other outlets. I do more of the sit-down interviews with the players and in-depth with Coach Prime’s guests. Bucky with Well Off Media is that day-in-the-life vlogging going on, what’s really happening with each player in the building all day. And then you got Reach The People with Darius, which is kind of a mix of both. So we’re not in each other’s way,” Uncle Neely explained. The entire model that Deion Sanders has now perfected after moving on from Jackson State really shows how he has managed to cultivate a social media presence that seamlessly manages to pull the fans in.

This is also quite visible from the ticket sales CU managed to pull despite having a terrible 2023 season. Despite going 4-8, the Buffs pulled in major numbers in ticket sales. Also, back when Deion took the helm, ticket sales for CU games went up by 40%. On the other hand, Buck, aka Deion Sanders Jr, has managed to draw in more fans through his unfiltered coverage of all shenanigans that the Sanders or the team is up to. From covering practice sessions to their July 4th Miami trip. But the main selling point of all of this is the fact that the content they put out has never felt boring.

Neely put this perfectly, “We never crowd each other’s content or… you know, man, we can be in the huddle filming Coach Prime’s speech before practice and by the time we all three put it out, if we all three put it out, it looks totally different because one of us may be focused on a player as he’s listening and somebody else is focused on Coach Prime. So it really just works well, man.” The ability to keep everything dynamic and different has made Deion Sanders and his social media marketing so different. However, that is not the only thing that makes Coach Prime stand out.

For the team

Social media is all good, but $200k for food? That’s something only Deion Sanders is capable of doing for the team. CU has seen a completely revamped kitchen to help out the staff and the players. Uncle Neely brought us coverage of this as well back on 19th July. With a small interview with Chef Carl Solomon, Neely was pretty open with his first question. “Like, what is, you know, you say you get orders every two days, what does this represent, like cost-wise?” to which Solomon replied, “ We’re looking at about 25 grand of fresh food in here. About 200 grand just for fall camp.” Food, which will cycle every 2 days to keep things new for everyone, is Coach Prime’s new kitchen strategy.

Other than this, Deion has gone on to open CU’s first women’s clinic. “This is our first annual CU football Women’s Clinic, but we’re gonna call it a Five Star Clinic,” Deion said during his welcome speech on June 25th. To say that Deion Sanders has transformed Colorado’s program would be an understatement. Coach Prime is all set with his marketing, team, and sons. Let’s see how the Buffs impress us this 2024 season.
