It’ll be a day for some new records to be created for the Michigan side as they chase history against the Crimson Tide. A list of records is expected to be created when if Michigan beats Alabama to ring in the new year. The win would be the Wolverines’ first playoff victory. They’ve fallen short of getting to the next stage and hence the playoff win would be crucial. Next up, it’ll also be the first 14-win season in the team’s history. Moreover, it’ll be the side’s first NATL title game appearance and a non-con win over a top team since beating Notre Dame, seventeen years ago in 2006.

The matchup against Alabama also becomes important with the stakes that are involved. It could be a season of sorts for the Michigan Wolverines as they chase these multiple records. There’s one more record in sight, though. If Michigan manages to win, they’ll become the first team to beat a top 5 team since the 1951 Rose Bowl victory in California. However, as they set out to ace these records, there lies a big problem with regard to the team’s best player.

Michigan faces the JJ McCarthy problem ahead of the Alabama summit

The Michigan Wolverines are relying on their QB to deliver the goods in the all-important clash. Now, as per ‘The Next Round’ show pundits- Jim Dunaway and Lance Taylor, the QB needs to step up his game. Dunaway tore apart the QB in his consensus saying- “First of all, quarterback JJ McCarthy, look at this amazing stat for a guy who got a vote, one vote for the Heisman trophy. JJ McCarthy hasn’t thrown for over 150 yards since November 4 against Purdue where he went for 335.”

Dunaway pointed out this glaring stat and reckoned that the QB could perhaps lead his side to a loss if he doesn’t step up his game. As per Taylor, the player’s ankle injury is becoming a limiting factor and hence the average performances. If Michigan wants this record-breaking victory, then they must sort out the McCarthy issue.
